What is it with forums all of a sudden referring to people as "NPCs"?  I only know this as "non-player character".  Is this some kind of derogatory thing to indicate people that can't think for themselves or something?

I can only assume it's because they caught the isekai disease. Tragic.

This has got to be the most blatant example of dehumanizing in modern US politics. Where did it even come from? I'm assuming 4chan or Russian trolls.

Sure, the Russians kinda suck, but blaming literally every new occurrence in meme-culture that you don't agree with on "Russian Trolls" or "Bots" is just a lazy way of dehumanizing those who disagree as well, no different to labeling people NPC.

It IS a 4chan troll thing. The meme was invented on /pol because people had started ignoring "SJW" and "snowflakes" as insults, and exists for the sole purpose of insulting anybody that doesn't worship God-Emperor Trump. Given that it originated on 4chan, the worship of Trump was probably parodic, but most of the people spreading it now aren't joking.

There is, but he's a burned out, soul-less capitalist trying his best to make ends meet in the post-immigration catastrophe, where his walled, home-owner's-association controlled community got overtaken by an influx of bad actors with brown skin, and worst of all, a dark skinned person from a southern country assumed power.

Considering the circumstances, he does not qualify for NPC status, because he is not liberal.
