Not even America, I think this problem is widespread across the Western world. Apologising loses your supporters whilst your detractors are merciless, leading to a situation where only the most shameless survive public controversy. It's a perverse incentive where the less responsibility you admit to, the less you are likely to have your life ruined by random people in an act of mob justice

Heh. Gotta say that I agree with this one. If you do something society frowns upon, you better make sure that at least you endorse what you’re doing. If you backpedal, that just shows you to be a hypocrite with no principles, rather than a person who simply has controversial principles.

Upright is change or an ending, upside down is resisting change or a change in yourself and only yourself.   ...I think, it's been decades since I last believed in that crap, so I may be mis-remembering.

Whole thing is a load, it's all so vague a person could get whatever meaning they want out of it.  For example either upright or upside down they both indicate a change, the orientation just means the card reader has to work it in different ways to mean the same thing.  Either they claim a change in your surroundings or a change in your thinking or a perceived change in your surroundings.  And it's not like change or endings are an uncommon thing.
