And here I was interpreting Yandex as having to do with spandex, and browser became Bowser, and it all fit perfectly in with the rest of the conversation.

But yeah, no idea why that particular genderbending took off the way it did. Personally I like the one where Peach grabs the powerup and mutates into a horrifying Princess² monstrosity.

So I just found out about the 3 month old “no girls allowed” BF5 controversy today.
Pop my head into some other game threads- seems like it’s everywhere.

Not gonna share an opinion, just finding the whole situation very WTF

I know it's been a problem for years now, but I still can't wrap my head around the apparent allergy to females that ignites quote unquote "controversy" every so often. It's a deeper problem with the culture, and this is just a symptom I think, but the overpronunciation is absurd in this particular circumstance that keeps happening over and over.

Honestly, this all reminds me of that time when Russian Nationalists got outraged over Company of Heroes 2's depiction of Red Army as rather bloodthirsty, which caused the said RusNats to brigade Metacritic and mass register on Relic Entertaiment's forums to complain in broken English about "Fascisti!". They even have made a petition to remove CoH2 from the major game stores in Russia, which achieved its goal easily, yet you still can buy physical copies of the game from smaller stores, or just outright buy it digitally on Steam.

In other words; a complete shitstorm that only cemented negative stereotypes about Russians being aggressive, easily provoked, eternally drunken yokels, and this BFV situation is no different: It reinforces the already existing negative stereotypes about gamers being whiny, aggressive "no girls allowed" types, all due to the fact that the decent arguments for historical accuracy are literally being drowned by "ATTACK APACHE HELICOPTER XD" jokes from angry, sad people on the same side.

Really, lately steam scores are becoming unreliable because some group or the other gets offended by a bad translation, or a good translation, or a bad depiction, or a good depiction, and they dogpile the score out of spite. Eg: a Moby Dick inspired game was boycotted by people opposing whaling... and shit, I'm very much against whaling (even traditional whaling), but... it's a fucking computer game simulating historical whaling. Geeze
