Cocaine is one of the most powerful vasoconstrictors known to medical science. ERs often pack it into large bloody wounds to stop bleeding and buy time to seal the wound. Hence why it's Schedule III: Limited Medical Usage.

Eh, I came here to post about an unrelated news article, but apparently it's related.

The idea that proteins in the blood of young people can help the body fight disease and ailments brought on by old age when transferred into older people is a relatively new one in the scientific community. But it has its origins in a centuries-old procedure.

The renewed interest in what is known as parabiosis came last decade after experiments carried out by young scientists at Stanford University in the early 2000s.

Researchers stitched a bunch of mice together by connecting their circulatory systems so they would pump each others blood back and forth.

The grisly experiment allowed scientists to show that the blood transfusions rejuvenated the ageing mice, making them stronger and healthier.

Since then a burgeoning industry — sometimes referred to as death disrupters — has emerged looking to capitalise on the science.

For instance a US start-up called Ambrosia is already charging $US8000 ($11,000) for blood transfusions from young people, reportedly popular among certain Silicon Valley elites.
