You sometimes see this kinda stuff happen too with blind ants, if they end up getting caught in a pheromone loop and just keep walking around in the loop until they starve to death / ants outside the loop show them how to unfuck their loop

As the "There's an XKCD for that" guy in my friend group (and I find links with lightning speed because Munroe is very good at tagging/analytics), I was tempted to joke that there's an XKCD for everything except the idea that there's an XKCD for everything.

Except XKCD 505 ("xkcd stone computer", no quotes) describes the author-insert/generic character literally simulating all of everything.

Plus some of the early experimental strips were pretty meta, when they weren't being sappy romance stuff or vaguely mythos things like the red spiders.
