Got a week of vacation, and I'm also going to be out of my room for a few days, since my parents want to use the time to replace the carpets and paint the walls or so they say. I was thinking of getting a console to play during that time. Looking it up, I find that a new Wii U costs over $600, while a new Switch costs half that? I would have thought that the older console would be cheaper. Looking that one up, apparently the Wii U's been taken behind the proverbial woodshed already, so no more are being produced.

Should I still get a (refurbished) Wii U, or a Switch?

You should definitely get a switch. Even if you're getting used. Most of the popular Wii U games seem to be getting released in the switch- see Mario kart, Pokken, some others.

Even when it was the underdog, it was propped up by The Man.  The audience was casual long before Nintendo got partially corrupted by that strategy (then recovered).

Meh, what does it matter though?  Modern consoles are just encrypted PCs with exclusives.  If Skyrim paid mobs are objectionable, these are insults.

xbox 360 was a good console. Get a switch, play botw oddessey and splatoon 2/octo expansion until the next wave of games come out.

The the record, botw runs just fine on a wiiu if you can get one for cheaper and that's the main game you're after.

That is an extremely low price, unless that was more common in PAL territories. Authentic cartridges of Conker's Bad Fur Day are generally around $100+, which is about 75 pounds according to Google.

As for the Kirby game, somebody's been listing a lot of retro games as "new" on Amazon with huge prices, despite them coming in a case that wasn't used for new N64 games back in the day. Clicking the right links on that page shows that the game itself can be obtained for $18-$30

I’m pretty surprised that my wife was able to get Perfect Dark and Goldeneye for $10 each at flea markets recently, but I’m lazy and don’t check prices or anything.
