So I've been watching Twin Peaks finally.  No wait, there's more!  No spoilers though.

I'm 8 episodes into the second (last) season, and feeling like things are wrapping up.  A lot of occurrences are still mysterious, but it's looking like they won't ever be explained, it's just the setting.  The villains are pretty much neutralized in various ways, except for one who's getting absurdly brazen.  Everything's pointing to a climax, which makes sense, the first season was 8 episodes long.

...  Season 2 has 22 episodes??!

Also, I'm starting to think many of these performances are just kinda bad.  They feel like characters in a 80-90's sitcom.  But is that intentional?  They kept showing clips of a fake sitcom, as if they were doing parody?  But what does that MEAN!?

The best character, Agent Cooper, acts particularly alien.  That's his main character trait.  But what does that mean when *everyone* acts like a pod person, and the local police force immediately accept him unconditionally?

In conclusion, is this show actually going anywhere, and how is it going to take 14 episodes to do so?
Just wondering aloud, I'm still going to watch (listen to) the rest...

Edit:  Like, I'm likely just not reading these actors' performances properly.  The show did launch in 1990.  But I'm pretty sure that most of this second season is filller - particularly since they keep adding more and more new characters, most of them from outside this tiny town.

That's normal in the USA. Provisional series will get an average of about 9 episodes, while a fully-commissioned show will be around 22+

For example, picking some animated shows just as an example:

Family Guy: season 1 had 7 episode and season 2 had 21.
Simpsons season 1 had 13 episodes, season 2 had 22.
Southpark season 1 had 13 episodes, season 2 had 18

Googling for more examples:

The Office (USA) had a 6-episode first season, then 22 the next season.
Parks and Recreations also had a 6-episode first season followed by a 24 episode season 2.

They put shorter first seasons out to test the waters and if it sticks, your contract renewal with the network will specify that additional seasons are longer.

David Lynch's work is just... out there.
Watched his movie Mulholland Drive for the first time just the other week and was left completely baffled.

Its like "Hey! I can actually follow this plot" until its suddenly "My drink must have been laced because what the actual fuck is happening"

I love that show so much, but it is indeed weird as hell.
At first I was like "wtf, this is like one of those stupid old workshop instructional videos we had to watch in highschool ITD class, right down to the music," but by a few episodes in I already loved it.

To answer your question, though: yes. Probably.

Still, Twin Peaks is one of the best things I've ever seen.

Spoiler: Nothing is wrapped up. Fucking nothing. Well, except Coop's Damn Good Cup o' Coffee(TM).

You basically just need to take Twin Peaks at face -absurd- value. Yes, many of the performances are corny or outright "bad", but we will never know if this was intentional or not. You just... Fuck, man, I don't even know.

The last 2-3 episodes go completely catshit though. Expect a whole lot of Whiskey with your Tango Foxtrot. Also, say hi to Samson making waves as 'That Other Role He Played Before Carnivalé'.
