My Firefox sucked up 12GB of RAM memory while loading a YouTube video. Thankfully, my computer has 32GB RAM, so it didn't die a horrific death.

Okay, so: a woman comes up to my apartment thinking it's the block's laundromat. Fair enough mistake it's a really similar location. She stands in my doorway with her laundry bag confused, not sure where to go. She's an older woman, very scared of the wind that's blowing, and seems like anything might topple her over. I'm honestly not sure if she's in the middle of some kind of emergency, like a stroke, or mentally handicapped, or just very physically weak and confused, but she tells me she's got a broken toe and she seems to have a black eye, and is on the verge of tears.

I hold her up in the wind and escort her to the laundromat which is about 20 steps away. I leave her there as I run to the landlord's main office, let them know about this weak & confused old lady. I run back to the laundromat to check on her, and she's still fiddling with the laundromat key helplessly. I let her in and make sure she can operate the machines. I got her apartment number, and ran back to the main office to let them know.

It's just such a startling and concerning thing to suddenly happen. This seemingly helpless old lady has me worried.

That's.... really odd? Is it appropriate to call the police for a wellness check? I suppose you have an equal chance of them exploding her front door down with a tank or something, though. Sounds like she could be in some kind of trouble.

Well, the office said they'd check with her emergency contact, so I hope that if anything's wrong, it gets resolved. She didn't seem to be in immediate danger, so I wasn't sure about calling in the cavalry.

I was reading about local snakes, and was surprised by this:

Quote
If you encounter a dead rattlesnake, don’t touch it!   The biting reflex remains intact even after death.

Yikes!

Spoiler: It can get worse... (click to show/hide)

Im cat sitting a neurotic, 'dinty', sheltered, and pampered 7yr old today.

she is currently on a leash in the back.  eating grass and passively accepting the limits of the leash.  when I try to guide her to the drive she rolls over and eats crab grass.

its astounding how we just develop and accept these unspoken rules; often not even challenging them

I hope you don't have any predatory animals nearby, 'cause cats on leashes are easy prey min.

Steam and 2k/Firaxis are doing a free weekend of XCOM 2.  The WTF?  The download doesn't work.  For anyone.  How the fuck does shit like this even happen?

It's a 90% chance to download successfully.

You missed.

Nope.  The download was fucked for everyone, just about two hours ago Firaxis patched it tho'.  Still, that's a pretty colossal fuck-up on their part.

's a good XCOM joke tho'.

Her version of things on facebook has about a million likes while the account of the facts from student groups has 40k. Evangelicals (Neopentecostals mainly, some denominations like the baptists are actually pretty nice folks) have this mentality that they are being constantly persecuted even as they send squads of fanatics to, say, wreck the temples (terreiros, to use the proper name) of afro-brazilian religions like Candomblé and Umbanda. Or attack gays. And so forth. It's why I am pretty damn closeted outside the close circle of people I trust about being both bisexual and pagan.

Remember: Always hit something you think you've killed a few times with a decently lengthy stick. Maybe poke it in the eye. This applies to anything, not just snakes. Sticks are your second best friend when it comes to murder hunting, right after after whatever you're using to kill with.

... don't ask how it works when it's also the stick. Superpositioned friendship kills no less than five people a century.

You'd think Brazil would have it's biggest problems with Catholics, not evangelicals. I guess it's American money making it's way down there as well?

(also what kind of pagan, if you don't mind me asking?)

Catholics have been acting up a bit, but mostly stick to decrying stuff like feminism, not treating kids like property and other "ideology indoctrinations", as they love to put it. Being hegemonic for a very long time tends to result in less raging fanatics and more in just prejudiced pricks. Church officials also just tend to stick to theology and philosophy rather than political activism, which means proeminent catholic politicians and other actors are secular ones.

Evangelicals (Again, Neo-Pentecostals, the terms may have become synonym here but I know that elsewhere it is not the case) have been gaining strength in areas usually ignored by the Church, such as low-income populations. They usually rely on loud, charismatic pastors who just love to get into politics and portray themselves as if they were in the fucking Middle East.

One easy way to differentiate between both is references to Satan and demons, as well as saints and Jesus. Catholics don't bring demons up very much, as opposed to Evangelicals who decry many things as satanic. I mention Jesus and saints as another way to differentiate because the cult of saints is pretty damn strong in Brazilian Catholicism, and you actually won't see them saying "Jesus!" much, unlike Evangelicals.

There seems to be a whole cult that has sprung up around the movie 'IT'; its original and remake.

IT is a book as well, and like almost all thick books, its a better book than a movie.  The original had some good points but is firmly in 'b-minus-tier' movies lists.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=701aOCPWpq0

But from what ive seem theyve furthered butchered IT.  Its like somebody saw the old one after watching a couple goosebumps episodes and decided to ratchet it up to Shadow the Hedgehog levels.

best trailer for IT ever.

P:  they fucked up 'beep, beep, Richie' too.
