I just finished reading the book I started yesterday.
WTF do I read now?! I have probably over a hundred books piled up around my room, waiting to be read. D:
Maybe I'll just go with the one that lost out the last time I narrowed the choices down to two and picked based on some small detail... I don't know. So many enticing books and I keep gathering more all the time.
It occurs to me that I am rambling. I really ought to start keeping my diary again, rather than inflicting this sort of meaningless babble on the WTF thread. ^~^;
Fear not! You can write in both
But yes, Diary is good. Support much.
Cheers! :) I doubt my Bay12 rambles will stop any time soon, though hopefully I'll start putting some in my diary/journal again too.

Is there one that could be described as being physically on top of the rest? Have you read it? Then go for it.

I read diary as dairy and was very confused given your eating habits.

Im cat sitting a neurotic, 'dinty', sheltered, and pampered 7yr old today.

she is currently on a leash in the back.  eating grass and passively accepting the limits of the leash.  when I try to guide her to the drive she rolls over and eats crab grass.

its astounding how we just develop and accept these unspoken rules; often not even challenging them

I didn't catch the "cat" portion of that post the first time through. Thought you were talking about a human child.

Still made perfect sense.

I missed the dog discussion. I have a medium and a small dog (60lbs and 20lbs) and my parents have two large dogs (100lbs and 90lbs). The only times any of them have been threatening were when the biggest, an unfixed male, was subadult and I was feeding him. He became aggressive against me and nipped my arm. I pushed him with my knees and pinned him, then dominated him. No problem after that.

The next biggest is losing her forward vision and gets aggressive if she can't tell who is approaching, even once on my dad, who is her FAVORITE person. She's the sweetest lover dog on the earth otherwise. My sister's kids grew up pulling on her face and poking her eyes and she never once got upset, just calmly took it.

And the little dog gets tense around the baby because he scares her. But she's never tried to bite him, just growled or bared her teeth.

Anyway, dogs are like people. Some are dangerous as fuck. Some are peaceable, never violent. Some can be dangerous when they need to be, but generally prefer being cautious. My medium dog is only dangerous when I incite her to be so. She's viciously protective of my wife and baby, even from me to an extent, but she wouldn't ever hurt anyone if she were roaming the street alone.

They all just depend. On the dog, their temperament, sexual status, comfort level, and much more. And there's always rabies.

Maybe it's natural, maybe it's a horrifying, degenerative neural disease.

A. What exactly do you mean by dominating them?
B. I've noticed dogs seem to be REALLY bad at using their excellent sense of smell to actually identify people.... for some reason

A. I didn't back down from aggression, but I wasn't aggressive. I assertively made him lay down, and maintained control of him. Basically I just showed I wasn't afraid, intimidated, nor interested in fighting. I just compelled his obedience. It's hard to explain.

B. Yes, I've also noticed this. Maybe we all smell the same to them without closer inspection?

Too real.

Anyway, I debated using the LAmeripol thread for this but... (warning, while I am going to present stuff as they happened, I'll also be throwing in thinly veiled insults and derision through this because it is fucking disgusting.)

So, last friday an "activist", Sara Winter, for a religious far-right group, the MCU (Movimento Cristão Universitário - Christian University Movement, more or less), was invited by an equally right-leaning professor from the history institute (of which I am a student) of the Federal Fluminense University (UFF) to do a series of speeches about how it's important to do science with a (fundamentalist) christian mindset and how christians are totally persecuted and victims of prejudice. Things already get interesting because he didn't actually get authorization from the University's administration (he filed it as if he was going to be giving a series of classes).

But shit really hit the fan when she arrived in the campus. Outraged students blocked access to the building where she was supposed to make her presentation. Her solution? Have her bodyguards, armed with nightsticks, brass knuckles and pepper spray, attack the students while she gloated about them being filthy pagan communists. People obviously fought back and managed to push her and her goons to inside another buildings... where they started hitting anyone in the vicinity, including students, teachers, public servants and contractors (like cleaning staff). Campus security arrived at this point and blocked access in and out of the building for exactly 20 minutes until tempers had cooled down.

Winter took the opportunity to dive beneath a desk, pull out her phone and livestream the feed as if she was under siege by raging Black Blocs (she actually used that word) and held captive for hours. Federal police (the only one allowed to actually step into the campus and retain authority, given that it is federal land) arrived not long after and escorted her and her goons out. She didn't face any charges. Now she's teamed up with a federal senator to spread her message of how the horrible, horrible communists of the university held her captive for 7 hours (the whole debacle took about three hours total) and points to a random bust people thought was cool and kept as decoration as proof of satanic cults within academia.

Oh, and she's literally calling for a crusade against the university.

tl;dr: Brazilian fundamentalist claims christians suffer "christphobia" in one of the biggest christian countries in the world, beats up students, acts like the victim of communist assault, calls for Deus Vult.

I was reading about local snakes, and was surprised by this:

Quote
If you encounter a dead rattlesnake, don’t touch it!   The biting reflex remains intact even after death.

Yikes!

Edit:
Quote
A scared Gopher Snake will flatten its head, hiss loudly, and shake its tail rapidly, doing a convincing Rattlesnake imitation.  The whole act is enhanced when the Gopher Snake shakes its tail in leaves, dried grasses or other debris.  This charade may be useful when facing most natural predators, but all too often is deadly when facing a scared human armed with a shovel or hoe.

Heh.
