Started watching the Kirby anime, the English dub of which is titled Kirby: Right Back at Ya. Only a few episodes in, and I'm a little shocked at how brutal it is. I'm guessing it gets less so later on.

The series opens with a flock of sheep being attacked by a giant octopus. They run, but aren't able to escape the tentacles, which pull the sheep towards the octopus. Then the octopus spits out bones. Like, a mountain of bones and sheep skulls that would make Genghis Khan jealous.

Second episode, Kirby defeats Blocky by splitting it into four smaller ones, swallowing one to gain the Stone ability, then forcing the other three into the ocean, where they cannot escape, and unlike the rest of the monsters I'm mentioning, there's no indication they died. Oh, and as he swims away, Kirby spits out the fourth Blocky and it sinks too.

Third episode starts with Metaknight challenging Kirby, and it seems like the violence is toned down a bit, as Metaknight is only slapping Kirby's face with the side of his sword(he has a very good reason NOT to kill Kirby). Then, towards the end, Kirby is fighting Bugsy, gains the Sword ability, and kills Bugsy via Sword Beam through the face. Bugsy tries to block it with a pair of swords, but it breaks them and Bugsy has a good half-second to realize how screwed he is. The Sword Beam actually does cut Bugsy's head in half, with Bugsy having an entirely appropriate expression of someone whose central nervous system was just bisected. Then his halves pull apart, just before he explodes.

Fourth episode repeats that scene with Kracko. While it seems less graphic since Kracko is a cloud(and poorly animated), he's also bisected through the eye.

And this is the English dub I'm watching. Apparently it's even more violent in the original Japanese.

King DeDeDe is completely justified in his fight against the eldritch abomination that is Kirby.

if I remember correctly there was a scene of dedede cuting down whispy woods (or maybe just some random tree) with a chainsaw but in the dub it was replaced with a laser chainsaw, I think the justification of it is people aren't dying (just animals and monsters) and its cartoony enough so they can get away with it but the chainsaw was edited by 4kids. I think it gets toned down a lot later on

The Kirby series is no stranger to brutality. As cutesy as the main stuff is, final bosses and the like tend to be cosmic horrors with unfathomable motives.

Games full of fluffy charm and whimsical music culminate in bloodsoaked battles against eldritch abominations lurking in the hellish void.

Used the opportunity to start working on a resident's computer that has had borked windows update for a few weeks now. Somehow the lady has managed to screw up the filesystem permissions what good.

Then, somebody dies, and now I am the impromptu night door-man.

IIRC, Metaknight has a really cool backstory and motive.  Or at least I liked it as a kid.

From what I remember, he's the last of his kind of an army that successfully defended the galaxy from monsters.  Kirby is either one of those defenders or one of the monsters, somehow reborn or given amnesia or something.  Metaknights' not even particularly a villain, he's just hanging around to make sure Kirby doesn't do anything evil.
