Yeah, my parents must have shown me Yellow Submarine half a dozen times, including its take on the song.
I didn't know what drugs even were at the time.  Just that the time of my parents (the 60's-70's) was some fantastic nonsense.  Or "magic", to a kid so young.  Dad explained the LSD connection eventually.

..fuck, that was some bizarre nostalgia.  I haven't seen the movie since I was maybe 16, and I don't plan to now.  reminds me of my dreams lately, albeit nicer.
I feel a bit better about enjoying video games, actually.  Experiencing and critiquing some interactive storytelling isn't inferior to my parents' generation licking numbers and dancing between colors.

The title and some of the lyrics were based on a picture drawn by a child. Acid trips had some inspiration, but were not the primary one.

Puff The Magic Dragon is a children's song about a boy and a magical dragon. Any other interpretation is as valid as Satanic backmasking was in the 1980s.

The proper name for '#' is 'octothorpe'.

That is by no means "proper"! It's just a joke made up by some people in Bell Labs, and has no more legitimacy than any other name, and considerably less than, say, "pound sign".

According to the internet, that modern oracle of ever-consistent truth, it is an alternate name for the pound sign.

Ergo, the thing is called the pound sign.

The British currency would like a word with you.

"£" is the pound sign.

"#" is a hash or number sign.

"lb" is pounds - as in weight - from the latin "libra pondo", apparently.

I remember pound sign as well, although there's a faint childhood memory of it getting called "scratch/scratches" as well.

What's funny is that, officially (everyone just says a scandi-fied "hashtag" in practice), the Norwegian word for it is "emneknagg"... Which is not only a weird one to work your mouth around, but its direct translation would mean "topic-coathook".


And I remember the drawing explanation for Lucy, but I could've sworn one of the other Beatles came out much later and said "Yeah, no, it was acid". Wikipedia backs up the 2007-dated Snopes article though.
