Lmao my boss telling everyone not to go to work because the snow made it unsafe. There's like 3 inches of snow and the world shuts down, but I appreciate it all the same. All this snow makes collecting freshwater for my plants real easy, just shovel it into a box and wait for it to melt, bottle and water

Once, like thirty years ago, it snowed in Orlando, Florida.

There are legends of that day. Thousand car pileups. Gangs shooting at the sky in fear to no avail. Alligators frozen in ice but unable to die, waiting to slaughter the first kindergarten classroom to come across them. No sun, but a white void that swallowed the sky.

Even now, it is feared and remembered, in a place where fear flows like water.

Every time a major snow storm even looks at NY, the mayor reacts like this

That is because New York (city) is so densely populated, and has such resource distribution trouble, that a significant shutdown of the taxi or subway system means that a significant portion of the city suddenly becomes at extreme risk of hunger. (Also, violence because police cannot respond-- also, freezing to death because of bad housing conditions in some noteworthy areas from bad landlords, as well as when people try to walk on foot to get groceries)

Less dense areas typically have people with bigger housing space available, which means they have more food and other supplies on hand to weather a bit of winter fun--- Not so for people living in literally 60 square foot of space.

Speaking from another lake-effect snow zone: You have a snowshovel inside the front door, and you just keep moving the snow out of the way, layer-by-layer if necessary, until you get where you need to be. Once you reach the car, you shovel the snow off it and away from the sides. Then you put the shovel somewhere you can reach it when you get back.
