I live in a town that's probably not all that different from Gentlefish's (though we're thankfully spared the college students, they're the next and much smaller town over's problem), with a whole lot of long one way streets with very few connecting roads of consequence. People love to speed down them for obvious reasons, but it's a game of Frogger more than a crossing even when you aren't jaywalking.

Many kinds of string are treated with metallic salts, which when wet, conduct electricity.  This treatment allows colorants to bind to the fabric of the string, as well as brightens the whiteness thereof before dye is applied.  These salts chemically bind to the fiber after application, and cannot be removed.

Plus, unlike how it's popularily portrayed, it wouldn't have been struck by actual visible lightning. And Ben Franklin, the scientist that he was, took precautions and was confident enough in the safety that he had his son help.

It's nothing remotely new. Spambots show up from time to time and usually are quickly quashed.

At least it isn't the kitchenbot invasion again!
