You didn't try to take them off by hand did you? The tool does most of the work.

It's always possible the last person to put the nuts on used a power tool and over-tightened them without realizing it.

My brother once told me a story of him literally jumping on the tool to take the nuts of his tire off and failing because his friend’s dad used a power tool of some description to put them back on.

Yeah I did all of that, and finally, after parking my sizable bulk on the ground, bracing, and straining my entire body weight against it, the nut was loosened enough to come off after being jumped upon.

Then I found out the last bolt was a LOCK NUT ON MY TIRE BECAUSE SOME SADISTIC GERMAN ENGINEER-MONSTER thought that was a good idea. So I had to drive on a flat tire to the dealership, whereupon the tire came off the rim halfway there. There was nowhere to stop, so I trudged on (*scraaaaaaaaaape*) to the mechanic shop.

They did not have the socket needed because apparently there are 50-60 different proprietary sockets that go into a volkswagon. Eventually found the socket key in some kind of secret compartment inside my car next to the Ark of the Covenant and a map leading to Atlantis and then the tire folks changed it for free after-hours at their shop because they are amazing people and I am bringing them donuts tomorrow.

Anyway I had a tire adventure. That was part 2, the other part was getting to work from home on said flat tire, but that's a story for another time. *closes book of adventures*

oh man, volkswagen. I worked at an oil change shop for a couple months and german cars were always overengineered. They always needed extra steps just to get to a basic component. Like removing a skid plate with 20 screws just to drain oil. Fun.
