Australian slang for a homeless person (from "derelict.")

Well, that no doubt is its technical meaning, but in my experience it is often used to refer to just about any unsavoury character regardless of whether they sleep beneath a secure roof or not. I probably wouldn't make fun of actual homeless folks quite so harshly. >.>
These two could have been homeless, I suppose. I think they were just trashy sorts with terrible dress sense, probable substance abuse issues and a marked lack of self-awareness. Who really knows.

I've always taken care of my hearing in that I found it fun to hear the tiniest sound! :3 Not that it helped me find a gas leak at home in the kitchen for one... but that also makes me help out old people and parents with their hearing too. It is nice to hear .__.

...But some days, I hear things for a few seconds or a second, or even a split second that I know aren't there.

And then I shrugged it off to local spirits awesome things. :V Because sound energy is awesome to mull over when thinking about possibilities.

But yeah. You reminded me of my mom when she got her hearing aids. "I can hear EVERYTHING. Even you (not me) chewing your food!" :O It was a bit weird at the start as I'm used to hearing all this ._.

I never really thought of that.  You generally don't lose your vision suddenly, things typically get fuzzier and fuzzier until an eye becomes functionally useless (my left eye at this point is so bad that they apparently don't make glasses lenses thick enough to correct it fully).  I guess it just makes sense that your hearing is the same way.  I should probably visit an ear doctor sometime, before I become one of those old guys with a horn attached to their head.
