holy shit, gotta love what Kerry Packer did to that show. It was rebroadcast later however. It's probably better than the Hitler one. It has kanagaroo scrotum grabbing.

Yeah, I remember seeing that a while back. Wasn't entirely sure whether it was an actual, short-lived TV show or a one-off shot.

Somewhat related, and WTF worthy, a promiment Neo-Nazi / National Front leader in the UK has come out as a gay and Jewish.

After revealing he was gay, he told the outlet how his far-right mates had turned on him.

“On one or two occasions in the recent past I’ve actually been the recipient of the very hatred of the people I want to belong to,” he said.

“If you’re gay it is acceptable in society but with these group of people it’s not acceptable, and I found on one or two occasions when I was suspected of being gay I was subjected to abuse.

“It’s a terribly selfish thing to say but it’s true, I saw people being abused, shouted at, spat at in the street — it’s not until it’s directed at you that you suddenly realise that what you’re doing is wrong.

Nah, see, they're patenting it to prevent game companies from doing it. They have our best interest at heart deep down inside.

That can be true in theory. e.g. if you look at crisis of the commons dilemmas, there can be a case where any one company implementing some cheap money-grab gets a relative benefit, slightly pushing everyone else down, so they all do it, however if they all do it, it harms the industry and they all end up losing money compared to where they'd be if nobody did it. However, any one company making a rational short-term decision would do it, because you make more money (when taken in isolation). It's why pure individualist capitalism isn't actually the best system, when everyone is maximizing their personal gain without caring about the expense to each other, everyone ends up losing.

In this situation, patenting the concept but never implementing it could avoid that arms-race cycle.

This also explains why some industries agree not to do some crappy thing, then claim that they care about their customers so much. They probably agreed not to do the crappy thing because they realize that getting a relative leg up on each other only hurts themselves.

Why would bad matchmaking in Ogrewatch encourage people to buy loot? None of the loot in that game actually affects gameplay, all you would be doing would be getting killed while prettier.

Then again, maybe the designers and/or players don't realize that. ;P

I think the point there is to match you up with players who have lots of cosmetics. That's not really a problem, it's the somewhat more ominous "match up with experts" part for things like Hearthstone.
