Yeah even knowing that a lot of people hated these characters I never had issues with Paris and Riker, the problems those characters had needed to be very deliberately pointed out to me.

What I love about TNG was the straight man comedy.  If you take them seriously the Picard and Q episodes are intentionally infuriating, but if you take a step back they're gold.  One episode Q teleports/materializes/creates sexy dancers and a band on the bridge of the Enterprise, and sheer lack of amusement on Picard's face warms my heart.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

If you need shorthand, the new Trek is like if someone played Mass Effect and took all of the backstory options for Shepard.

I've just started watching The Next Generation for the first time recently. I'm enjoying it so far, just past S1EP12, though I can see what people don't particularly like about it. It's already had about 4 episodes that are quite similar to ones from the original series (I have watched all of TOS) which, from what I understand, is more from the series not gaining it's own identity yet. Q is like a more serious Trelane, less childish and more serious (though testing humanities worthiness is a bit ho-hum), I don't mind the idea of Wesley (a child prodigy) but the writing strikes me as kind of "those darn kids'll show those stuffy adults" and the character gets rather shoe-horned in sometimes.

"The Battle" was a nice episode, and I've enjoyed the Ferengi. "Where No One Has Gone Before" was also enjoyable. "Hide and Q" was neat but the best part was Riker towards the end.

I plan on watching all the episodes from every series. I think you've got to take the good with the bad and maybe you'll enjoy an episode others don't really like.

My little sister called on me to help her with her HS Freshman algebra 101, and I'm always willing to help her, but now I'm thinking I might be kinda retarded after not being in school for so long. What stumped me was a question that basically read something like "9t + 10 = 9t + 9 What's t?" and I'm just staring at it stumped, pretty sure that no value of t produces a true statement. I really hated feeling stupid and unable to help, and I might need to fresh up on the subject on my own time to be of use.

Since I understand that, I should probably explain how that kind of problem works...

Nah.

And don't worry about being dumb, it's just rust. Scrub it away and you'll soon shine.

I think you should explain it, I am also stumped.

This makes me sad.

Unless the answer is “t is a fickle motherfucker” or “nobody puts t in a corner”.

I'm thinking I just totally misunderstood the question and I would've had to have been in my sister's math class, listening to the teacher herself, to grab what was being asked, but the only instruction in the book was "Solve the equation", which didn't help me.

t can’t be any value because just as you say, there is no real value that fulfills that requirement.

I think you should explain it, I am also stumped.

This makes me sad.

Unless the answer is “t is a fickle motherfucker” or “nobody puts t in a corner”.

lol

So the point of the equation is to find out what t is. So since both sides of the equation equal the other, that means you could subtract 1 from one side as long as you subtract 1 from the other.

So, the equation:

9t + 10 = 9t + 9

If we subtract 9 from each side:

9t + 1 = 9t

I suspect that this isn't the exact equation though, because that which you see above is literally impossible. 9t is literally just 9 times t, t being an unknown number. Unless there is some absurd calculus number that can take the place of t here, then this equation stumps me too.

So here's a different example.

t + 5 = - 4

So -4 is negative four of course, so we just need to subtract 5 from each side.

t = -9

And that's it for most! Grossly oversimplified as far as examples go, some require you to divide or multiply each side. But that's pretty much the gist of it.
