The magna-ge fled mundus before lorkhan's plot to impose limitations on them (such as temporal causality, cause-effect, and pals) could take effect, tearing the star-holes in the process. As such, trying to understand them requires thinking in ways that are alien to mortal races. It is only natural that trying to read portents from the holes they tore in the fabric of reality would be unsettling to people not mentally conditioned to think in "timeless" and "non-causal" manners.

In some respects, that is similar to the mental damage that comes from trying to read an elder scroll. Likewise, elder scrolls are non-causal, do not obey the physical laws of reality, and have always been.
