I dunno. I typically find them emotionally unstable, with dangerous levels of saccharine syndrome. That's just my opinion though. Rather than being captured by charismatic auras, I am instead repulsed by lack of rational consistency. (note, this is on the aggregate, and does not fully apply to any specific example held up.) Your mileage may vary.

Just like Vampires.

Are you suggesting that I would be partially immune to vampire glamour? :p

Yes, you have protagonist powers.

Make sure to never forget that the top "plant" part of a potato is dangerous. Much like its aptly named cousin "Deadly Nightshade".
Is it hallucinogenic at all?

Re: food, I eat out on the reg because WTF even is money. Should probably practice my cooking though, but other people use the kitchen too and I don't like doing so at the same time as them. I'm hoping to re-learn some of the recipes I've forgotten whilst visiting family over the next couple of weeks.
Is there another term for "eating out" that doesn't sound sexual, yet isn't as cumbersome as "dining out" or "having a restaurant experience"? >.>

Speaking of vampires, I shall remind everyone that What We Do In the Shadows is one of the greatest films ever, and anyone who somehow hasn't seen this masterpiece should get their act together and watch it at the absolute earliest opportunity.

Heh, it's funny, it seems like I could easily have become a furry as a kid... I always an appreciation for anthropomorphic (apparently I managed to spell that right first time whilst still being half asleep, heck yeee) characters. Plenty of my childhood drawings starred humanoid characters with animal heads. Hell, I drew a whole series of comics starring Captin [sic] Fox and his sidekick, Billy the rugged goat commando.
But somehow when I encountered legit furries on the internet somewhere (in a comparatively innocent, non-sexual form, even) they just weirded me out.
Probably a good thing, I can't imagine what it would be like to be a furry. I still like anthro characters, though, ha.

Let me see...

In terms of being a weird community as a whole...

10 times less weird than the hypnosis community (Seriously... this is probably the max I think humanity could achieve)

A bit more weird than the anime community (not the one here).

Possibly. Members of the nightshade family produce tropane alkaloids which are known to be hallucinogenic. I would not advise eating the green parts of the plant to find out however. The kind of hallucinations those substances induce are neither fun, safe, nor desirable.

Now, if you had just been gassed with trace amounts of VX or something, and needed an antidote, chewing on the tops for low dose atropine might be sensible, if you were in no position to get primary care in time.

That random, far-out-left-field exception aside, eating the tops of potatoes is not a wise decision.

They're more in the direction of arsenic than poppyseed. You may hallucinate but it probably wouldn't exactly be because of the plant, more how it was trying to kill you :V

Taco Bell's free wifi blocks the webcomic TwoKinds. Whatever, it has sexual content, I can understand why they'd block it even though it's kinda weird Taco Bell as an entity even knows about it.

Then I discovered that almost every webcomic I can think of is blocked. SMBC, VGCats, Awkward Zombie, Perry Bible Fellowship, Pandyland and Prequel are all blocked. Do webcomics have a bad reputation or something? ::)
Well yes, they kinda' do. Most of those you just mentioned has content (violence, sexy stuff, etc.) that would be blocked in your average school or library, and they're very much tame and/or tip of the iceburg so far as webcomics go. The things are pretty close to the fanfiction of the drawn mediums, with precisely the amount of porn and borderline porn that entails (Lots. Lots and lots.).

It's not uncommon for commercial folks to not take much in the way of chances when it comes to open wifi networks, particularly if they're catering to a younger or family oriented crowd (and fast food joints generally are)... though as noted above, the bandwidth aspect could definitely be a larger decider, heh. If you're really curious, you could probably call and ask, or float an email or whatev' to the company itself. It's almost surprising how often you can get odd questions like that answered if you bother asking.

Between my childhood obsession with anthro characters and actual fur... uh... bundleofsticks-ery?
Yeah, definitely. Just seems like it wouldn't have been hard for my developing mind to make the leap from one to the other. Especially with all the weird places I ventured to on the internet.

The kind of hallucinations those substances induce are neither fun, safe, nor desirable.
Well, dang. Guess I'll use the planned potato garden plot to grow more cacti instead. :P
I don't actually have a garden, I'd most definitely grow potatoes in it if I did, regardless of their psychoactive properties or lack thereof.

Well, just to be up front-- If you wanted *THAT* kind of high, you are better off planting moonflower datura. In addition to having very large, fragrant trumpet-like flowers with attractive large leaves-- they are very VERY high in said tropane alkaloids. So much so in fact, that some states have made them illegal to cultivate as ornamentals, because of morons using them recreationally, and then flipping the shit out when they see the devil coming to visit them, and report sensations of bees or insects biting them from underneath their skin, and other very surreal and probably not something you want to happen to you type hallucinations.

Now, if you want a more "LSD like" hallucination, another pretty ornamental is in order-- Woodrose.  The seeds of this ornamental contain high levels of ergine, which is similar chemically to LSD.

Now, if you just want a very robust edible tuber, the potato is difficult to beat. Neither of the above botanicals offers anything in the way of actual nutrition. :P

Sir, I can report that it is entirely possible to imagine, for it would be entirely the same as your present conditions. Well, were you an enthusiast to the fursuiting degree, there would be some marked difference, and presumably less wardrobe-space. I am unsure, for that is a few steps out of my comfort area. I would wear one for comic effect if involved in a bank robbery, but ordinarily... No. Not my cup of tea.
I am unsure where the lines are, however. I tend to assume that I do tally as a furfriend, but that is because by the regular internet environment, anything but very loudly expressed displeasure is effectively full, confessed membership. Proper enthusiasts and the hard-core individuals would not give the likes of me the time of day, no doubt.

In brief, developing such a preference would not have affected your life very much at all. It is quite unlike joining a cult, nor is it like a severe disease. That I can assure.

The line between connoisseur and fanatic has always been a fine one.

The fanatic almost always professes being the connoisseur; while the connoisseur strongly objects to that appellation being used by the fanatic.

To me, the dividing line seems to be on fixation. A connoisseur may appreciate the finer points of a subject, and have deep familiarity-- but that subject does not dominate or define their life.

A wine connoisseur tastes the wine, and spits it out after enjoying the flavor. He does so only occasionally, and as a treat.  The alcoholic however, drowns themselves in the stuff, frequently, and at every opportunity.

A person who appreciates anthromorph artwork, but does not drench themselves in it, is not a furry.  The person who drowns themselves in it, indulges wild fantasies about being an anthromorphic animal being, (or having one as a lover), and in general fashions a large portion of their identity around that constellation of features, is what I consider to be a furry.

Ah, I see. Reasonable distinction, I would say. It is quite open (naturally), and applicable. I know of an awful lot of gamers who would fit the general description. That is, so self-identified with an enjoyment of theirs that it has to some degree become their personality. Not only them, naturally, but these last four odd years have displayed that particular phenomenon quite clearly.

Huh O_o When I had first come upon it all [like the wikipedia entry] and it said that one liking the art is one, then I agreed with it but I'm not even of anything in the [...] bits.

Wait I missed your part of "what I consider to be" ._.
hum!

But more relevant to the thread: Leeches everywhere D:
Moreso 'in places where I'd wonder how they even got there', like in the bathrooms, in the buckets, and in places far away from our backyard of a forest that it is strange to wonder how they squiggled into these places.

I am very cautious now, despite there being a literal wall between any of our entrances, and our "backyard", there are still leeches, even in the basement, and in other places so deprived of leech-pathing.
And then it will be ant month soon, when all those ants come marching in, active and everywhere. :-X
