The flags of the counties of Liberia look like they were made in MS Paint

I think the one in the bottom middle with the floating trees is my favorite. What does it mean?! Is it symbolism for the uprooting of forests? Is it telling us there are floating trees there? Does it indicate the inevitable ascension of the soul-consciousness of all flora into an omniscient hivemind? Who knows!

I recall he lives in the midwest somewhere, I don't think he ever mentioned any particular state though.

Anyways, do we have a recently active gun control/gun rights/general controversial gun stuff topic somewhere? Because the NRA (National Rifle Association for those that don't know the acronym) wants to set up insurance covering the legal costs (monetary, not criminal) of shooting someone, and maybe the aftermath of getting shot. As typical for insurance policies, they don't cover everything you'd think would possibly get covered, and I bet you have to join the NRA in order for the insurance to apply, so, it's also a ploy to inflate membership.

I'm wondering, is there anything like this in other countries? Somehow I don't see this kind of plan working very well.

Perhaps such a discussion could fit in the US politickin' thread? A gun control thread seems like it would be short-lived, though I have been wrong about such things before.

Anyways...
Oh gods I'm supposed to be going to a rave tonight my poor sleep schedule how will it survive this onslaught
It's 5-and-almost-a-half hours past my bedtime, but I feel preeeeetty guuuuud. Also, it's only 5-and-almost-a-half hours past my bedtime, thanks to the convenience of 24-hour train services on Friday and Saturday nights. How nice. I know this is old, old news, but I haven't been going out much lately and when I used to be out this late on the reg' I never had a sleep schedule to worry about, so it's nice.

Heck, I could probably fit this in the Happy Thread, but the underlying experience contained plenty of WTF as well as Happy, and of course this post is obviously in response to my earlier one.
Um, bonus WTF... let me think, uhh... okay! I saw a heap of ticket inspectors hanging about at the city's main train station, but none of them came anywhere near close enough to hassle me-
and I was fare evading, after having paid the fares for my trip into the city hours earlier but deciding not to bother on the way out in the early morning. That was a WTF, kinda. I guess I have been having good luck with such things, lately.

Edit: From the bolded letter onwards was added in an edit, after running out of characters on my phone's weird posting method.

God, that article is insanely biased. I can't believe that Politico (which tries very hard to be neutral on major issues) allowed it.

I can summarize it in two sentences.

The NRA is offering people the opportunity to buy into a legal defense fund for gun owners, which makes them baby eating monsters. Now let me explain why anyone who doesn't support forcing gun owners to buy this entirely unrelated insurance is a baby eating monster.

In general that article was sort of confusing and a bit self contradictory (I think), which is why I was asking about it.

Plus the way that it's written makes it sound like the whole insurance thing is just a ploy to increase NRA membership, which it probably is in some sense.

Not being a gun owner myself and you guys have probably seen my views on guns, so, I'm a bit clueless as far as bias.

Earlier today, I had some quality time with my television set. I will never want for reason to complain about the program tableau.

First and foremost, what on Earth is the matter with this childish obsession with nudity? Nude dating, people thrown out in the wilderness with no clothes, celebrities going swimming in their Eden-gowns, and there is little doubt that further programs are in development. Surely, it must become unremarkable at some point, but at the moment, it would seem that the general television audience cannot see enough of the flesh. There is no doubt in my mind that there has been a nude version of one of those indescribably generic cooking competition shows that never made it on broadcast, due to some ghastly injuries...

Second, there are now two types of documentaries. First, there are the ordinary ones. They make a summary or pose a question of some description, and then explain it, either by way of the presenter or through various expert. Sweeping vistas or computer animations where available. You leave the experience amused and slightly more informed on the subject.
The new breed of documentaries, however, can be itself summarised as 'Stop & Start'. Everything, the slightest fact and concept, is repeated over and over. Incredibly obvious rethorical questions abounds, like "But how, oh, just how did they build the Königfichensberg cathedral? Everyone was stuuuupid back then, how could they have possibly done something complicated like this?", while a computer animation of the thing in question is displayed for the fiftyseventeenth time. Then, they might make an incredibly brief summary of a clever technique, like a flying buttress or some-such, and then return to the question, and then summarise again.
It is as if that type of documentary, the sort that does not really convey anything, assumes that its audience simply does not listen to it. That it must repeat itself, so that no one has reason to feel left behind, so that no one will go "haaang on, what's a flying butt-rest?" when it finally deigns to move on. That, or the intended audience is simply very, very thick.

Well we all know what happened in the attempted nude documentary about gold smelting...

Jokes aside Earlier today I saw for the second time what I can only describe as a pigeon taking a shower. It sort of rolls onto it's side and extends one of it's wings vertically while it is raining. It is really bizarre to see happening, especially when the pigeon isn't on the ground but on a bin shed.

Basically, the NRA's proposed insurance works like this.

You can't just shoot somebody, tell the police it was self defense, and go on your merry way. You will be arrested. An investigation will be performed. You will need substantial financial resources to deal with the legal matters even in the cleanest of shoots. Furthermore, the person you shot and/or their family will be able to take civil action against you. Most people cannot afford this, so you can sign up for NRA insurance to cover these costs.

The author of the article turns this into a Very Bad Thing, and proceeds to push his agenda of making mandatory "coverage for anybody who gets shot with your gun" insurance.

It makes total sense that you would want insurance for this.

Mind you I am sure there might be some flaws that I am unaware of and one COULD argue that it might embolden gun users. Yet in terms of "Yes, you would want insurance for civil disputes in cases of self-defense"...

It isn't a "Insurance to freely shoot people" :P
