Why are fidget spinners popular. It's like one of those terrible modern toys that they try so hard to tell you are cool in the commercials, and even children can smell the desperation underneath the fake hip hop and 30-year-old men pretending to be early teenagers. Like... Nak Naks or something. It's like that, except it somehow became genuinely popular.

I dunno why they're suddenly popular among so many people, but their original purpose is to give kids with ADHD something to do with their hands so they can focus on something actually important.

With me and 300 other people applying to the same jobs, employers can be as pointlessly picky as they want to be.  And employee turnaround can be as high as it needs to be.

Well, true, in a sense. But then, they can jolly well manage a 301'st application, whether they like it or not. Who knows, one could always get a spot of luck. After all, someone or other gets that job, and I doubt every single one of those follow the specifications to the letter.

Remember how a whole ago how I was finding it weird how people are hating on shows for being political, even when... they really aren't political.

Well... Surprisingly these are two of the major contributors of a show being considered Political.

To admit with Avatar the Last Airbender it was "LIBERAL" because it showed that other philosophies than Christian existed (And I am sure Kitara and Toph did too). Soo...

I do not pay any particular attention to that sort of silly demands. Not any more. I apply and leave the matter to them.

"For this position, we would like you to be 20-25 years old, with four to six years of experience in management, corporate law, data entry, technical support, catamite scrubbing, owl stretching and flower arrangement. We would also like you to have completed a university degree in law, data analysis and classical Greek. We would also like you to be a frequent gym-goer and marathon runner."

Why, that sounds fantastic, SpunCorp, quite reasonable. Now, I would like a full vision and dental package, I would like seventy-five thousand crowns per month, I would like a generous stock option, an eight-week holiday, carte blanche to smoke my pipe in the office, carte blanche to drink during working hours, dark oak panelling in my cubicle and the director's daughter's hand in marriage.

We would all like a lot of things. Apply, and bugger their lists. I doubt they are carefully followed in most cases, anyway. They would be terribly short of staff otherwise, no doubt.

This amazing post deserves the highest appreciation. Just... bravo.

I dunno, they seem like a reasonable amount of fun to me. Better than compulsively checking one's phone every few seconds, at least.
A friend of mine uses one as a replacement for constantly smoking cones and/or ciggies, so that's pretty cool.

I am gay and not a liberal. My mother is a woman and not a liberal.

Unless you mean liberal as in hippity hoppity get off my property/taxation is theft. In that case we're sort of liberal.

ummm only in the strictest sense.

It was somewhat progressive in nature, but not political in of itself.  To have been an overt political statement it would have had to been aired in a very conservative country.  Maybe in 1950s america?


The show belied the progressive nature of the creators, or whomever was pulling the strings, but such a showing is so common these days that its only mildly so.  Its more that somebody would find the show or its characters to be a role model; even the morales themselves aren't political.



I was going to guess that some people use the presence of homosexuals and women who actively pursue feminism as validation, or that seek to 'create more' of these types.  Lobbyism: Home Edition.

Actually, what you just did there, applying the idea of the show to another idea, that of the propagation of one's validation/beliefs, and applying both to challenge an otherwise nonthreatening or positively seen thing, is exactly how progress happens.  Its a more abstract take on the world, and its subversive in its very nature.  Outside the box and stuff, which may/maynot be bad ...

I hate how a word that used to mean one thing, is apparently now synonymous with another entirely different thing.

I'm not even sure "liberal" has an actual definition in America that's not purely defined by "anything conservatives don't like", i.e. defined as a negation.

You have to tick all the GOP boxes to be called a "conservative", whereas if you don't tick even one box they'll call you a "liberal". e.g. you could be low taxes, strong on borders etc, but if you say "I support abortion rights" now you're a "liberal" regardless of anything else.

Also, the whole "RINO" thing is a no true scotsman thing. They lump all the Democrats/liberals in together and say the sins of any individual are the sins of the group, but as soon as a conservative does anything wrong they get excluded from the sample set as a "RINO" (republican in name only), thus allowing the conservatives to whistle while looking away pretending it had nothing to do with them.

It's almost textbook "no true scotsman":

GOP "no conservative would do X"

DEM "well there's a conservative and he did X"

GOP "well he's a RINO so he doesn't count"
