I am actually quite good at pixel art in mspaint.  I used to be a regular in the forgotten beast art contests back when they were a thing. 

I have an alternate one of a scientist holding up a mysterious red liquid, asking if you are thirsty for science.

If anything the problem with Steven Universe is that Steven is slowly becoming the worst character on it. Being overly whiny and EXTREMELY freeken manipulative...

You sure you didn't mean Avatar? That show features other cultures more prominently (In more ways then "not meant to take seriously" symbolism) and was nothing but political messages. Or perhaps Adventure Time that includes other cultures only to make fun of them and had a FEW political messages?

Or maybe Gargoyles that featured an insulting caricature of a culture... and has a few political messages.

From what I remember it was the fat snowman who was capitalist, simply due to the fact he had ice cream. He also had a servant he sexually abused.
I mean, there is a joke, very heavily based on reality, that during communist times kids asked their parents to go to the candy store to look at pictures of ice cream.
Anyway, now that I think about it, we would totally make ice cream in Poland back then, if not for the simple fact alcohol has lower freezing temperature.

You know... if there is one trope that I actually prefer...

It is where people always make avatars (or always have avatars) that look like or similar to the way they do in real life.

It just REALLY helps remember who is who.

I edited the background myself with a around 16+ pixel colors and customized the coloration.

Sure.  But pixel art requires relaxing certain normal conventions, similar to anime. This is due to the reduced resolution of the images.

There is a pretty famous pixel artist (derek yu) who has some excellent tutorials.
