I'm always so curious about why emulators require so much backend.
Shouldn't it be possible to just boot a partitioned OS as the emulator, and just put Nintendo disks in and read them?

It's because the hardware is so different.

It's not like Windows and Linux, which both run on the same hardware.

A console and pc hardware is very different, so the emulator needs to translate everything.

You're basically teaching someone who spoke Latin their whole life and only Latin, and who only ever heard Latin, how to speak Japanese.

Yep, first up, you have different CPU instruction sets, because consoles don't mostly use x86 chips. you can't just "run" a Nintendo disk, because Nintendos speak alienese, as far as a Windows machine is concerned.

And it's not just the dialect, the underlying rules can be different (some instructions might exist in one CPU but not have an equivalent in another). So it's more like someone's spoken in Arabic, then a Japanese-speaking person wrote what they said down in Katakana, now you need to work out what it means in English, in term of both syntax and semantic meaning.

Then, you have things such as custom graphics hardware. Your emulator needs to support that. In software. Try writing yourself a Direct3D emulator that runs on OpenGL. Good luck with that. And that's just the alternate instruction set for the same video card. Imagine now, that you have to make an emulator for a completely alien custom-hardware parallel processing video card that runs on a system that doesn't have x86 instruction code, and you're expected to make that work on any video card that the emulator user "might" actually have.

Mine is actually pretty spot on, though in public I usually tie the hair back.  In original forum game, an androgynous dorf who liked plants and cats.  I'm not short, but much of my family is very tall, so it works (as if height is the most important aspect of dorfhood).  Hell even the cat is an expy, I self inserted hard that game.

Posted a one-off comment on something on imgur with a gif of Yamato (of Space Battleship Yamato). Some guy sperged out (and for once that's a genuine description) and started spamming comments about how it's unrealistic and unfeasible, already close to twenty. Like he doesn't understand how fiction works, that writers can make shit up as they please for the sake of the story. Wut.
