I'm 90% sure all those newspaper cartoons are purposely boring to avoid offending literally anybody.  I can't imagine a real reason for a newpaper actually paying people for anything so mindnumbingly dumb.

Spoiler: Tried to eat a jalapeno today (click to show/hide)

First small bite starting from the bottom(opposite the stem), nothing. Second bite, nothing, starting to wonder if I misidentified the jalapeno. Third bite, now about 1/3 of the way up the pepper, hit seeds and got a little spicy. Fourth bite, almost halfway, it's getting hot, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Fifth bite, ohcrapohcrapohcrap, it's really hot, my eyes are watering, nose is running, and I suddenly start hiccuping rapidly. It takes most of the rest of my break, including most of my lemonade drink and a cereal bar to stop the burning.

Would do that again.

The trick to eating jalapeņos and other chilis is to serve them in/with greasy food, as capsaicin dissolves in fat. A good recipe is to split the pods and remove the seeds, then stuffing the halves with cheddar and fried bacon and putting them in the oven for a while. The kick will still be there, but it won't overstay its welcome.

At parties with a certain friend of mine, he never fails to have a bottle of some ridiculous gag hot sauce that I'm pretty sure isn't actually supposed to be eaten. I'll put a generous dollop on whatever pastry or sweet is around and eat it. Last time it was literally painful, I had a fantastic coughing fit and tears streamed down for minutes after.

I once jokingly told my friend to eat an entire jalapeno. Specifically, I pointed at it and shouted "EAT THAT" with no additional detail. Turns out he had never seen one and happily picked it up and chewed it whole.

He spent almost as long weeping and turning beet-red as I did laughing and apologizing.

The rabbit living under our shed got into our garden and ate our vegetables last year, which included green bell peppers, red chilies and some surprisingly hot jalapeņos.

It's called seasoning, because the rabbit's flavour is particular to the crops grown in any given season.

Well, an animals diet does impact the way their meat tastes. Pigs fed on corn meal over the long term are bland and unappetizing compared to pigs fed on a larger variety of vegetables and grains.

I don't know about rabbits and hot peppers. Just speculation, really.
