It's really situational. A couple weeks ago I was on some harder core pain meds, and I was a goddamn beast in Dark Souls. Nothing got to me- nothing. Normally I get tense, my hard rate goes up, and if I start making mistakes I typically start making more mistakes. In 3 I was beating my head against the Nameless King- until I tried it while on drugs.

My reaction times sure as hell weren't faster, but I was chill as fuck. I was singing along with Harry Belafonte and just playing the game, not really caring or thinking about how well I was doing. I cleaned house.

Not endorsing opiates, just saying that it depends on the person, the game, and the situation. Hell, when I was in college I knew an honors student who took three shots of vodka before every exam to settle her nerves. It worked for her, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have done nearly as well if I'd tried it with a scaled volume.

... it's almost amazing how quickly alcohol starts screwing with someone's ability to play video games. Been watching a zelda stream... part way through, guy cracked open a beer, and within minutes you could see their competence begin to degrade. Reactions became notably erratic, previous attentiveness to detail got less so. By the time that one was finished and a second started, it was like they had lost their ability to comprehend stuff like basic target leading, the ability to count, when to change tactics... just a bunch of stuff they had been managing went out the window. Wasn't hard drink, either, just fairly normal shit.

Really drives home how little it takes for the stuff to screw with someone. Avoid it enough I don't get reminded very often, and even then it's rare there's also steady and fairly constant activities that make it rather quite noticeable. Been a while since I saw an example that striking.

One beer isn't enough, under most circumstances, to raise a person's blood alcohol level to an impairing level. Somebody very small, or with very low alcohol tolerance, could be affected badly, and chugging one while somewhat dehydrated will result in greater effect, but those are fairly limited circumstances. Most likely any degradation in playing ability was caused by the distraction of drinking, rather than any alcohol content.

Honestly, it's behavior I've seen before, it'd just been a while since I paid much attention to it. It's not majorly impairing, but the degradation in physical coordination and decision-making is very much noticeable, particularly with something like gaming. One beer definitely has an effect, and it didn't/doesn't take a whole one before it kicked/kicks in.

My girlfriend swears my reflexes actualy get faster as I get drunk. I've found no reason to doubt this so far.

The only time I've gotten drunk I was playing Dark Souls 3, and I recall making progress just fine.

Clear proof that I'm a superior lifeform.

I tried play Dark Souls 1 drunk last week.  It didn't go very well.

Later I tried it sober and did much worse, not even joking   I got frustrated a lot faster, might have been part of it.

I dunno. Most big psychologists believe that our personalities are shaped by the events in our lives, and our decisions are shaped by our personalities.

I feel as though a person without any inputs (such as 'you might not have free will') will generally do every action according to how they've lived their lives (Also hormones).

Which also makes me worry because I know some really erratic people, and the things they do sometimes cannot be explained by me or them at all.

That anecdotal streamer makes me feel better about my ability to hold my liquor.
I occasionally play buzzed/drunk and I find it makes me perform a lot better in FPS games, mostly because I am less likely to become frustrated after a moment of doing badly. Takes a lot more than one beer to reach that stage, though. I haven't really experimented with other videogame genres, apart from Drunk Fortress which is, of course, always a clusterfuck.

I'm not sure whether to interpret that as a good thing (the sensation of being buzzed boosts the buzz from performing well?) or as a bad thing (the sensation of drunkenness blocks out the inevitable rage and tilting?).

I'm a tad young to test that out, but it does make me wonder.

Anyway, I was registering for AP tests on Sunday and I kept typing my student email (which has "student" in it) as "studnet".

Which sounds like a name for one of two websites:

Combo of WTF and Sad:

Had to use a seriously nasty restroom today. It was located in some sort of building on wheels right next to an actual building. The lights inside said portable building were out. The furniture was covered in tarps. The air was way too warm and humid, almost like a steamroom.

But this was just the lounge area that connected to the restroom. The restroom light worked, thank goodness, but stepping inside revealed why the chairs and things in the lounge were tarped. The roof must have been riddled with leaks; the floor was wet in several places, the toilet was drenched. Several of the ceiling tiles were missing, showing the damp insulation above. Other tiles showed tell-tale water stains.

That was quite possibly the most miserable bathroom break I've taken in a long time. Sitting there as water contaminated with god-only-knows what mold and microbes dripped onto my back. My legs. My head. Got out of there as quickly as I could and now I'm wondering whether to get in touch with a health and safety inspector.
