There's really nothing illegal about a pyramid scheme in principle. As long as you're up front about the details. It's the misleading nature of most of them that makes them illegal.

Actually, it's because they're an economic catastrophe.  Unchecked, they can destroy an entire national economy. 

This is exactly what happened in Albania, with the entire national economy collapsing and, ultimately civil war.

This is why, in general, a "pure" Ponzi scheme is illegal at every time and every place.

While, IMO, MLM scams should be illegal as well, some of them, like Amway, are politically well connected.  Betsy DeVos, Trump's "education" cabinet pick, is of the Amway scam/cult.  However, as bad as these are, they rarely present an existential threat to a national economy.

As a foreigner and considering his foreign policy I'm not as amused but hey. I just think following Obama is a bit of a tough sell.

Depends how you look at it. Turnout was 55%, and a little less than half of that voted for Trump.

Even then, a slightly larger proportion of people voted Hilary, so she's arguably more popular.
