After a handful of farmers had their cows that panic and stampede a few times in a row this year, the national agricultural organisation has opened a 'hotline for cow panic', to map and investigate the phenomenon.

One farmer says: "I've been a cow farmer for over 30 years and I have never seen anything like this. All diary cows are affected, but the calves are not.
Now it isn't that odd that cows get nervous every now and then. Cows are really nervous animals. What made this strange is the intensity, and that it wasn't just my herd. Four other farmers in the vicinity also had their herds go jackshit insane and stampede. So it must be something from outside our barns and land that spooked them.
None of my cows were harmed, but they didn't give milk for a full day after. My neighbor though lost a handful of cows that tripped, slipped and got crushed.

Agrarian organisation LTO says it has opened the hotline to assess the situation, and see if they can find a common factor in the incidents that could explain the panic.

Meanwhile, on social media, many theories are emerging, ranging from ghosts spooking the herds, to wireless radiation, to the earthquakes in Groningen (because of the gas extraction), to aliens, to Trump.

Personally I'd say, go look for wolves or bear. Both have been predicted to make their re-entry to the Netherlands, since nature sites have been interconnected with wildlife over- and underpasses.

Dude of all the possible complaints one can have about Ameripol, "Stale" should not be it. The threads over 100 pages long and it's not even been a month. That thread is on fire! It's Yuuuuge.

Perhaps "burned out" is a better word. I think we're all a little burned out.

I think I've seen more people angry about the floppy bird meme than about anything that happened in 2016 or so far in 2017.

For those not in the know, Facebook has a thing where you can send pre-made not-quite-gifs called "stickers" over messages or in comments, and recently one featuring a floppy-headed bird (here's the only gif I could find, the original is much faster) has gotten really popular as spam in comment sections.

I saw people complaining about it a whole day before I ever actually saw it, and I still see more people angry about it than I've actually seen the damn thing itself.

Oh damn, I've never seen that. Course I'm never on facebook.

Its probably wildlife (or teenagers. Or PETA rejects. Or Canadians (geese).) Spooky wildlife. I recall when our horses went nuts and tore through their fence because of a flock of turkeys coming over a hill nearby. It was admittedly a lot of fucking turkeys, but they'd seen turkeys before...

I mean yeah they are competing with internet porn now... But this REALLY isn't their strong suit.

I remember a similar experience my sophomore year of high school, where someone dropped a Valentine's Day card on my desk at the end of class with an invitation on it. I was looking through my backpack at the time though and I didn't see who'd left it. I asked a few of the girls in the class about it, but I never did find out who put it there. They probably thought I thought so little of it/them that I couldn't even be bothered to respond. Sad.

Anyway that's still pretty good for you, even if you don't know who it was from.

Most of the places where you buy magazines wouldn't stock Playboy, while those that would also would sell the harder stuff like Hustler and Penthouse (not sure if those particular magazines are still sold in dead-tree format, not something I regularly shop for) that Playboy had trouble competing against with Playboy's traditional "glamor" solo photo sets.

In addition, the Playboy brand has been far more profitable than the magazine itself in later years, with their bunny-branded clothing, licensed slot machines, bar guides, etc. selling very well even to folks that never read the magazine. Since the nudity didn't seem to be selling, they decided that dropping it and focusing on their other content (which is quite good, a lot of people really do read Playboy for the articles, short stories, etc.) would allow them to expand magazine sales and push the brand even further. It didn't really work, but it isn't hard to see why they thought it would.
