WTF #1: Today's song to play in my orchestra: Little Chimneysweep as arranged by Petri Juutilainen. Dissonance, rhythms that only make sense if you have the full score, and nonsensical graces galore. Near the end it has the staff text "knock the drumset over" (the glissando at 1:19 in linked video). I'm pretty sure this arrangement of a traditional children's song is the musical equivalent of a trollfic.

WTF #2: On the radio, the hosts were talking about a recently published dictionary of a 'secret language' used by youth to talk about sex and other taboo subjects in social media without alarming their parents. It included words such as 'pr0n' 'cy46' and 'kys'. They were acting as if this phenomenon wasn't as old as the telegraph.

WTF #3: Helsingin Sanomat published a quiz that tests if you can tell companies that current prime minister Juha Sipilä has been involved in apart from comicbook supervillains. I scored 11/15, myself.

8/15. Perhaps some knowledge of Finnish politics and/or comic books would have helped... but nah. I did good enough.

I don't quite get cy46, but every parent today should already know what pr0n is from living through the 90s or later, and I'd assume kys is kiss.

Warning:Quiz requires knowledge of Finnish.

@Shadowlord:I believe it is an abbreviation, not a misspelling.

I've never seen cy46 at all, but kys actually stands for "kill yourself" and is usually used by 12 year olds.

...How did that become a thing by 12 year olds? And where? (Sounds like a cultural thing coming from somewhere anyway)

I don't even know. I basically never use social networks, so I couldn't tell you about that, but I see it on Youtube extremely frequently.

Also, I didn't mean that it was used exclusively by people who were 12 years old, I was just trying to say that it was used by younger kids trying to act edgy :P

Oops, I misspelled it. It's supposed to be 'cu46' or 'see you for sex'.

Yeah but...I mean I do recall these things do happen but...
Why edgy .-. (What's edgy?)
And why that certain term of phrasing?

I don't quite get cy46

So many things I have no idea about ._.

Young kids haven't always learned our complex systems of morality.  When they do, they often find offensive things inherently hilarious :P

I remember singing some pretty terrifying songs, in retrospect, like that parody of "Glory Glory Hallelujah" where the singer shoots their schoolteacher.  It didn't seem particularly shocking at the time, and I liked my teachers.  It was just like the meaningless violence in action movies.

Course, that was pre-Columbine...  The Columbine shooting definitely changed what was even socially acceptable, much less safe to say.  Kids I knew got questioned over relatively minor stuff, just in case.

14/15, you need to have a feel for the acute difference between unimaginative business naming and unimaginative comic book supervillain naming.

For some reason part of one of my dreams last night was, like, discussing my heritage with my family, and in it I found out I was part Polish and part some other country with a strong cavalry tradition, and becoming excited to tell Kot about it. I also distinctly remember saying "I'm a Hussar!"

???

In reality I'm mostly German with some Welsh, English, and Dutch. Last name is definitely Dutch.

What, people don't write DIAF anymore? I once saw someone write FOADIAFIRLKTXBYE on their website in response to someone or other. I forget what prompted it.

Someone lit a fag under the roof as it was raining/snowing, an automated alert from an unknown location began blaring that this was a non-smoking area, to extinguish it immediately and that a staff member had been contacted. It is better to not be reminded how much surveillance blankets the rainy socialist island

I mean. I don't really see a problem with the whole 'hey don't smoke here jackass' alarm. Could just be a smoke detector wired to that :P

* Iceblaster is a bit too optimistic about this stuff.

Somehow I don't think smoke detectors wired to contact staff are evidence of surveillance state.
