It might be better in multiplayer, but in regards to singleplayer campaign and matches against the AI, I would say that AoEII wins by a very large margin.

they recently (i think) implemented a pop-up that basically completely disables the site until you turn off your adblocker

Spoiler: except the site looks like this if you do that, and strains even MY computer even with an adblocker on (click to show/hide)

and while i know it's possible and not that hard to get around those kinds of popups using your adblocker, i'm hoping this move is the final nail in the coffin for many more people who choose to jump ship and start supporting independent wikis

people use adblocker because your ads are intrusive, annoying, and potentially malicious, fix the problem and people might consider actually turning off adblockers

In unrelated news, I nearly played myself today. Am on the afternoon shift at work, woke up half an hour before I would need to leave if I was on the morning shift, freaked out that I was late and panic-dressed. apparently if you try to run both linux and windows steam on the same machine, only one is allowed to actually connect to the steam servers

so basically, because steam is a piece of shit that only lets me download games for linux despite wine having been a thing literally forever, my options here are

• only run steam through wine, which completely defeats the purpose of having a linux version of steam in the first place and also negates any benefit i'd gain from running (what's honestly the majority now) games with linux versions in a native linux environment
• constantly exit and reopen steam depending on whether or not i want to play linux or windows games
• look up the steam app id for a game, manually create an appmanifest file, allowing steam to FUCKING DOWNLOAD THE GAME ANYWAY DESPITE IT NOT HAVING A FUCKING LINUX VERSION and then run it through wine
• just fucking pirate the games i already paid for because it honestly feels like less work at this point than the alternatives

i just don't get it

the fact that i can already force steam to download whatever the fuck i want is proof that there's nothing stopping them from enabling me to download the games i've paid for, they just chose for no god damn reason to prevent me from doing that

It's a user chosen award. Did you really expect anything else to win for test of time?

AoEII is an RTS from the nineties, while Skyrim is a popular best selling RPG from five years ago. It's not that hard to think most people on steam remember the latter than the former.
