The moral of the story is snitches get ditches, thus if somebody grasses you forget about all the other sports bludgeoning and kill the snitch

Saw an advert on telly, which was bizarre... just cartoon people spreading hearts around to people, basically.

Two lines of a song repeat at the end, something along the lines of "we need more of god's love to give one another" or some nonsense.

Apparently the company sells car batteries.

Fucking what?

Undirected emotional appeal! Some people think it's the best way to sell something, all by itself, with no mention of the product at all.

If you sought out the identity of the company, the advertising worked.

If he doesn't ever buy any of their products, the advertising still failed.

... and anyone he mentioned their name to, I suppose

Well they had "battery" in their name, so it wasn't a difficult thing to surmise prior to seeking out their website. I got as far as Googling it, so I guess it does something with their algorithms?

It was just a weird advert that had nothing to do with what they were selling. I recall a radio advert which had a similar feel to it, though it was at least more informative as to what it was. The only Christian LED seller in the area.

The WTF is mostly what their religion has to do with their product.

Some people like to buy from people with a religious commonality. Similarly, wasn't Chick-Fil-A discussed on these boards?

Theyre marketing to hardline christians that will buy products guaranteed to be 100% christian. Seriously.

Kinda like marketing your product as gluten free, even though within reason the product shouldn't contain gluten in the first place, to appeal to people who actively seek out anything with "gluten free" plastered on it.

Fixed that for you.
END EDIT

Both are 100% right :)

Linux doesn't cost anything, Windows supports a lot more applications I want to run. Both are about as easy to use once you get beyond the basics, both have strengths, both have weaknesses. (both have annoying zealots)

The WTF is mostly what their religion has to do with their product.

There's a certain kind of person that has to drag their religion into everything (it's not just a christian problem either).

Too bad they will never understand that the best way to "witness" to the unconverted is to be quietly religious. Don't hide your beliefs, live them. Proselytize to those who want to listen and quietly provide an example to those who do not. Trust me, a person who quietly lives their religion (provided they are not a hypocrite) is far more impressive than one who is loudly obnoxious about their faith (particularly since the loud ones are often hypocrites).

The Aleppo march has started.
THE MADMEN ARE ACTUALLY DOING THIS.

Really? I thought they'd abandon it as pointless once Aleppo fell, since the point of the march was to try and bring attention to Aleppo.

Seems like they got the idea from MLK and Ghandi (I saw their memorandum mention the Selma March or MLK). Sure, they marched into dangerous situations where they knew they'd face violence, but they never to my knowledge, marched into a live battlefield with armies duking it out.

Geez, I hope this doesn't end up like The Children's Crusade or something.

EDIT ... actually if you read the Children's Crusade accounts, the descriptions of the behavior and age ranges sound suspiciously similar to the chuunibyo concept from Japan (year 2 - middle school - disease: i.e. delusional 14 year olds who think they have special powers ala manga/anime. The western equivalent is usually kids who've decided they're vampires or gotten into some subculture). Some things about human nature never really change.

I doubt they're likely to be sold off into slavery (unless we're talking about sex slavery here), but looking at the wiki page, looks like none of them got anywhere near their intended destination.

The realisation that 3D printers now cost as little as £200. And I could afford one. And I want one. And I have no idea what I'd actually *do* with one...

It's like the 2 Raspberry Pi's I have lying around. I don't need a media centre, don't have the space for a DIY arcade machine, don't like voice controls or have any wifi-controllable stuff to automate...Best idea I've had so far is just to use one to build CCTV for my flat entryway.

Damnit, WTF me, I have magical boxes that can do whatever I can think of, why can't I think of anything!?!

And I'm still eyeing up the Raspberry Pi Zero like "Damn that's cool and I want one"...

There's little point complicating your set up for lulz. The best use for tech is to replace some other gear or manual process. And the problem with "magical boxes that can do whatever you can think of" is that a general purpose PC/laptop/tablet/smartphone already does most of the things you'd want via software. That's probably why you're finding it hard to justify uses for extra hardware. Most things you could use a Pi for can be done via apps.

Make something you need? That'd be a place to start.

Though yeah, it helps to actually have a purpose for said 'magical box', like something you really want to do, or like doing, or need for something.
