Quidditch.

The sports league mattering for the House competition is an odd thing. It very clearly didn't count in the first book, but by the sixth (and last Hogwarts) book it did.

My copies of the series is currently piled under other people's stuff, so I can't go through and check, but I think the reason it didn't matter in the first book was because Gryffindor was so far behind that the protagonists simply did not care about the results... until Dumbledore showed blatant favoritism and handed them the win anyway.

If that walk makes it to Syria and the war is still going on they are either:

A: Going to stop outside of a combat zone and maybe not get bombed

B: Enter an active area and get bombed out of existence.

Why is she and hers any different from the thousands of other civilians that were killed? What does bother me is that if the war ends through other means in the next three months someone is probably going to claim credit for this march.

There was a BBC interview with the journo that started it.

I am reasonably sure at some point in the article she stated that she believed that t would be impossible that the combatants would bomb a peaceful march, because this world would mean nothing.

Fakeedit: article, for those interested.

I'm not sure about her, but anyone dumb enough to actually follow her that far will receive a darwin award. The fool who follows, after all.

The fuck does that even mean?
I'm assuming it's just supreme naïveté in that she believes people are incapable of committing great evil.

I applaud the end goal of the march - ending the war - I just have no idea how a bunch of civilians marching on Aleppo is going to achieve that, in any capacity.

It might be despair. Some people might not want to live in a world without peace.

Could be a leap of faith as well.

It's more likely that a bunch of westerners traipsing through rebel held territory will be held for ransom than killed outright, though there are as many "behead the infidels on the internet for great justice" types among the rebel forces as not these days. Not sure how the Government would handle it, I guess it'd depend on how quickly they figured out what they were doing. Hell, they might even be welcome in government held areas if they're clearly not spies or smugglers because they might spend their money there.

The whole point of the Darwin Award is that the recipient has removed themselves from the genepool through an act of perceived foolishness and so, the implication goes, has done future generations a service. The vast majority of Darwin Awards are posthumous.

Nah, what the world needs is fewer assholes. Then perhaps a march to hopefully prevent bombing wouldn't be necessary, and folks wouldn't feel the need to hope for misguided individuals to die horribly.

Fewer, not less.

I also imagine there is a better way to convince the not-foolish liberals that they're wrong than wishing for war crimes against the foolish ones. Just sayin'.

I feel like mass murder is probably not a valid way to solve our problems. I also feel like advocating it is a good way to invalidate any point you might be trying to get across.
