That's perfectly normal for the American educational system, yeah.

Anyway, I have a massive migraine suddenly. Like I just got hit in the head with a hammer. There is no good reason for this.

Amusingly, the story addresses how stupid the educational system can be in the subplot about Scout going to school. Ah, delicious irony.

Might as well post it in the SMF error thread we have stickied right now. Wouldn't be surprised if it was related to Toady losing his UI buttons.
They're two separate bugs, for the record.

@TempAcc:Yep, that's American schools for you.

Unrelated: An Islands match that isn't dull grush wars!?

Galley rushes are ridiculously high-skill at that level. I find that aspect overrules the repetitiveness, for me.
It's true to an extent, but even at that level of play the micro still looks very much the same every time unless someone fucks up. Land's just inherently more interesting to watch at any level of play because of structures, terrain variation, elevation, having a decent mix of units, &c. It's no coincidence that the most interesting water fights tend to be the ones that involve shoreline castles/towers/rams (or just demo ship spam, heh), or FFA no diplo ones where a bunch of different players are brawling.

Matter of taste, I guess. What happens on a land map is almost entirely decided by immediate map generation and civilisation matchup (until the late game, which is fine because the late game on a water map is diverse) as well, and the variation in terrain is comparable to variation in fish location and coastline shape.

There's a reason a lot of people prefer to watch casual or team matches rather than high-level 1v1s - the latter have an extremely well-defined meta in most situations, which is why things like Clash of the Hippo are a thing.

Fair enough, though I'd posit that there's more room for error on land even in high level play, and that there's more nuance to terrain gen than just resource distribution (not least because most land resources can be stolen or are physical barriers, never mind things like players trying to wall extremely open maps, woodline thickness allowing for denial towers or mag clearing, &c.).

I think To Kill A Mockingbird was the last genuinely interesting book I read in high school. The regular-level class got to read all the classics like Of Mice and Men, while the IB class usually had to read obscure bullshit that ranged from "so bland I would never read it" to "so awful I wouldn't read it if you held a gun to my head." I liked Great Expectations and the John Keats poems were pretty nice but that was about it.

I still have mental scars from trying to find any semblance of something interesting in Pride and Prejudice.

My mother expected me to walk to GameStop(which would triple my weekly shopping walk) to pick up "the Battlefield game for XBox360" for some kid whose name she picked off of one of those charity Christmas tree things. I didn't because fuck that, and looking up the prices on GameStop's website, there's several Battlefield games for XBox360, and I'd put actual money on her wanting me to get Battlefield One.

If I had put actual money on this, I'd have won. She was looking for Battlefield One. For XBox360. She got Battlefield Hardline instead.

Another debate, this time about moral responsibilities and corporations. Like blood diamonds or sweatshops.

One person made a thread on why weed should be legal. A few people shouted "COMMUNISM" and that profit is all we need in a capitalist society, and that our own laws are harsh and unnecessary on corporations. Some people blame the citizens of third-world countries for not having any human rights, and thus are letting themselves be abused.

There are reasonable posts, though. There are also posts I can barely read because English is not the first language of these students.

No one's even debating. Everyone just made their own separate thread. Barely any even have replies.

Also I'm confused that you called To Kill a Mockingbird interesting.

A US research into STDs and shaving shows that people who shave their balls / pussy have a significantly higher chance of contracting a STD, specifically those that are transmitted through skin contact.
The chance of contracting those STD went up by 80% for people who sometimes shave their pubic hairs.
For people who shave daily, chances even increased by 350 - 400%.

The researchers hypothesize that that is, because shaving causes microscopic injury, making it easier for skin contact diseases like herpes and syphilis to infect the body.

Isn't it a requirement of assignments like that to reply to two other threads with the presumption that it will encourage discussion? I took a jazz survey class like that, what counted for most posts was "i liked xyz and feel that xyz showed good use of $thischapter'sjazzconcept," with responses in line with "i agree with you that xyz did $thischapter'sjazzconcept well." It was dumb, but I suppose it was the cost of taking a jazz course online for university.

Or maybe this is just another forum somewhere, I might be projecting. Bit jarring to know they're your peers, huh.

Pretty sure inter-forums drama isn't allowed by the rules. These are classmates.

In other news, my mother and one of her coworkers are conspiring to play matchmaker to hook me up with one of said coworker's cousins. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, given I have no opportunities to meet people in a normal day and I've been stonewalled in online sources, but, y'know, I'm not sure I want my mother involved in my romantic life.

That sucks. And is a bit weird.

Are they sure that this isn't just a correlation? People who shave daily are probably composed in large part of pornography, prostitution, and extremely casual sex.
