Shit's getting real in the vatican. Apparently 4 cardinals wrote a "dubia" (essentialy an inquiry directed towards a catholic authority for clarification of some things) to the pope, with questions that, when combined, amounted to "hey uh, are you actualy catholic?".

The pope, on the other hand, decided to just avoid them.

This is pretty serious shit. We might have the roots of a possible schism on hand. These guys have the power to declare the pope a heretic.

That is not the definition of sentience.

In that case saying that something alive is sentient is a tautology. Ergo it's still not a proper definition.

I think it's a poor equivalency in any case. A cell culture is undoubtedly alive, but can hardly be said to be sentient.
