There is an old story: A woman was acquitted of blasphemy because beauty was considered a sign of divine favor. Sometimes pop psychology articles appear announcing that pretty people get preferential treatment in general.

We do.  Its generally easier to convince strangers that you trustworthy just because your face has a pleasing symmetry.

That's the 'ugly friend' effect at work. People like to have someone around who looks worse than them in order to boost their own self-confidence. Granted, most won't cop to it, and might not even be consciously aware of it.

Probably hasn't done so because it might make his insurance go up.

I wouldn't think it'd go up if it was my fault. Plus, I plan to go around insurance anyway. The cost of fixing it will probably be less than my excess.

It can go up even if you're not at fault, yes. You shouldn't really think of an insurance company as being something roughly in the shape of reasonable. If you think it'll work a particular way... check first. They're something that's looking for any and all excuses to charge you more and pay you less, and naught else.

I am finding a weird thing in politics.

Typically I thought in politics (I usually don't pay attention but two events side by side forced me to pay attention) that when the winners win they are like "We will show you" and the losers are like "We will be watching you"... A sort of mutually understood hostility.

But I am noticing now it is more that the winners are like "See, we were right all along. Everything you said now is void and you were wrong in every way" and the losers are like "Well this sucks! Well we will be watching you"

Was this always how politics worked?

Like if someone said they would kill all ponies and feed the poor... and won on the feed the poor platform... The winners would be all "See, you said he was a pony killer! we proved you wrong!"

If it was really that nice of a car, the owner might have enough money to just feel like taking it to the shop and throwing a wad of cash at them is less trouble than bothering to get it out of you.

It is RARELY ever logical. At least appeals to nationalism kind of fulfil the role of nationalistic pride... Sure a Beer claiming it is AMERICAN or CANADIAN doesn't really make it so, but if it forges that identity then by what means isn't it?

Crude Oil is a all natural product. Coal is a all natural product. Uranium is a all natural product.

No... I have an issue with what they mean. They use "Natural" to incite an idea in your head when in fact it is ENTIRELY meaningless.

"This medicine is all natural"

What does this tell the consumer?: This medicine is perfectly safe

What it actually means?: Nothing... on every level.
