Should always be numeric year, month, day, if only because then when sorting dates alphanumerically they are also sorted chronologically.  This will be important when we are all turned into cyborgs.

Because this allows you to see the day, then the month, then the years.  the most important information goes first, and usually the most relevant part of a date is the day, because most people need to deal with short term deadlines.x

Besides, "November ninth" instead of "November the ninth" is just a special-case convention.  "ninth November" is equally valid, it just sounds a little funny out loud for us who aren't used to it.  So we wouldn't need to say "the ninth of November" (:

The Indian government, without any warning, declared all current 500 and 1000 rupi banknotes (about 6.75 and 13.5 euros respectively) to be invalidated as of this this tuesday night.
With this, the government hopes to strike the black market, tax evasion, counterfeiting and corruption hard.

Prime minister Modri announced it on national television.
He said that terrorist were making and using counterfeit bills on a large scale.
He pointed out that while India is number one in the world list of fastest growing economies, it has a lousy 100th place on the list of nations with the least corruption.

All banks in India will be closed down for a day. Starting the next day, people will be able to exchange their old 500 and 1000 rupi bills for new 500 and 2000 ones.
All transactions will be registered and communicated with the tax office. People have until december 31st to change their old banknotes.
Modri thins that this will hurt those rich folks who keep lots of cash at home, to evade taxes most, and those people who rely on cash to bribe officials.

The EU has or had (I think it still has) plans to do the same thing to the 500 euro banknote. Apparently no one uses it except criminals. India is smarter though, they don't discuss and announce it years ahead in public meetings.
