In any case, I would recommend all EA game owners who lost their games on steam to all flood steam support with refund request, and if denied, official complaints. Give them a ton of paperwork to do. Perhaps even organize into a claimant group with a good lawyer. Sue Steam for conspiracy to theft and organized crime.

Uh... So the issue is that games get "retired" after a while when they're too old, EA shuts down the servers.

Understandable with multiplayer as the servers become too stale, it's wasted money, but if I have it right, old single-player DRM'd games are also being made unplayable because they don't want to pay to host the "single-player servers".

It is one issue on the pile.

The fact that EA can retire ANY of their origin games regardless of whether they need servers or not.

But really it was more about how EA shut down Origin for several countries. Showing exactly where your legal rights are... (and they aren't the only company that has actually deleted your entire digital library before)

It suggests we need some laws in place to protect consumers from arbitrary seizure.

You really don't have a leg to stand on legally until there are laws for it, so laws really should be set up regarding that.

Until then there's not much one can do except boycott EA and resist the urge to buy their games.

There's two ways new laws come to pass / existing laws are extended to modern situations. The government / parliamentary route, and the jurisprudence route. If no one ever starts a lawsuit because 'there's no laws for it' the latter route is unjustly neglected.

Anyway, my WTF is all the weird gamebooks and gamebook-style games I've stumbled upon in the darkest depths of Steam.
The bargain bin, basically. Some of them actually seem like they could be pretty fun, which is the real WTF!

Just poked around the Steam board for Alice: Madness Returns - which I bought but never played as it required an EA account for a single-player game - and there's several topics regarding it disappearing from both the Steam store and Origin. One of them mentioned some method of playing it on Steam, but that required downloading 900MB of possibly legally questionable files and playing around with the configs, so I don't know how that works out. Maybe it bypasses the requirement for an EA account, I don't know.

No and no. Also, would pushing help it start if the starting motor is bad? I figured that was more of a dead-battery trick.

Also my car is an automatic, and Google tells me that you can't usually push-start those
