Yup. Though I've heard it used for standalone titles as well.

it typically gets applied to porn manga, especially fanfic porn manga, but it can also refer to just about anything independently published, such as touhou

The latter. I have watched letsplays, but that was before I had some grasp of the basic lore... its a little cyclical.

I know its really long, but even so...

CJacobs of Something Awful did a very good lore playthrough of DS1 that you might want to check out (on Youtube here). As for Dark Souls II, there's a ongoing blind run pretty far into the game here. The person who did the latter also did a blind run of the first game that is worth a look - his main complaint until Sen's Fortress was that the game was too easy, which is not common for a blind run.

Minor WTF, but I've been reading about early Soviet leaders on Wikipedia (I don't know why, actually, it is just happening) and I've realized that I've had my mental pictures of Molotov and Beria backwards. Why this happened or -more importantly- why I care is a mystery.

While I really dislike the way our church keeps getting involved in politics and education matters, this isn't orthodox church, this is some sort of unique crazies who think that Russian Orthodox Church are euro-liberal sissies. I enjoy Garfield, and I collected the books when I was younger. It was great.  I would say 'literally the unfunniest comic ever' is a bit of an overstatement :p

Agreed.  As my friends and I recently discovered, Family Circus is far worse.  The jokes swing between non-existent to absurdly trite to just absurd.

If nothing else, most Garfield comics come with a bonus Garfield Minus Garfield comic if you hold your finger in front of you just right.  Also, Jim Davis called GMG "inspired" which I think is very decent of him.
