Just got Windows 10 updated, whether I wanted it to or not, to the latest "anniversary" (e.g.: screw you if you had any systems setup that worked previously) edition.

Amongst the many things that made me WTF?, they completely ruined their previously awesome post-it note app, which I had all kinds of things really well sorted out, formatted and etc., having all kinds of crap/plans, etc. setup in a manner that I can keep track of anything at a button's press (also making the most of minimizing the post-its while at it to make the most of every note I can place; not only is my formatting screwed up beyond repair, but also the minimum post-it size is expanded to a "screw-you" bigger scale, whereas I could shrink them to at least half their size smaller than the new minimum), the fancier 'marker-style font, along with any option to change the font is no longer existent, oh yeah, and any other options that previously existed to make things more convenient are no longer there too.

Basically, I think Microsoft is learning from Apple. If anything works, if it's a useful/practical feature, fuck you, it's not necessary. PAY US!!! OR ELSE...

I feel like in order to keep your "free copy of W10", you'll be required a biometric ID via your required Windows Phone (No Android or Apple) just to open the fucking Log-In screen, which will require a ritual blood sacrifice to open up. Doesn't Apple require that already?

This stupid update ruined things enough, I hope their stock drops a good 25 points minimum. I mean, whoever's bright idea it was to destroy convenience for the sake of "convenience" (can't really read/write shit, but hey at least Cortana works, right?) should pay for screwing everyone over for this BS, because they want to be Apple. I might have to learn Linux, and just bypass all this crap.

For reference of how badly they fucked things up. Play regular/classic Minecraft (Java edition), and compare that to the Windows 10/XBOX Special Edition of Minecraft, and see just how fucked up their thinking is. Let's add features, We now have -5 features added! What joy! WHAT. JOY! PAY US!!!!! PAY. US.

My own WTF: woke up before 6AM to the smell of smoke.
I am unsure whether the smell was what woke me up or if I just happened to be waking up, but I followed my nose and, after quickly realising that it wasn't coming from the direction of the kitchen, I peek out the window of my room to see one of my housemates, arguably the worst of them due to being batshit insane, wearing underpants and burning a pile of rather green branches at the bottom of the yard, whilst watering the garden with one hand.

There was a lot of smoke. I just went back to bed, I couldn't deal with that sort of shit at the best of times let alone that early.
Somehow, miraculously, we haven't had any firetrucks show up. It's past 7 now, so, lucky. Lucky.
I think this guy is a bit of a pyromaniac on top of his other problems.

That's literally the basis of website policy. It's the same reason why you can't post hardcore pornography on Bay12forum. The idea is that in the end free speech only matters in neutral grounds and a site or corporation with its own medium can do whatever the hell it wants.

Yeah, pretty much. Free speech is only really applicable to public spaces, so far as legality goes. Pretty sure things are for the better for it, too. Folks need places to talk but they also need places they can tell other folks to stfu.

As for the agreement itself, that's the EULA or ToS or whatever. Contracts can be formed without explicit agreement pretty easily (you make one each and every time you buy anything from any place of business, ferex, even if it's just dropping some change for a stick of gum or somethin'), and those are an example thereof. Though there has been some pushback on that subject, at least vis a vis online, in the last few years, iirc. EU's cookie stuff, ferex, and some of the legal rulings regarding said EULAs.

I've always wondered about the legality of EULAs that display after the purchase of the product.  Especially if they don't offer a refund on declining.  Doesn't seem like any other form of contract works that way...

Nah. Microsoft has a strong market share in the PC market, but virtually no share in the phone market. That's why you see Microsoft mobile software on Android/iOS, but not ChromeOS/Linux etc. Doing anything like that would tank their flagship product, and they would know that.

A company like Apple might be able to get away with it, due to the popularity of their phones, and that many OSX users use one too.

Working this as a fully thing in my thread later... but...

One thing I really dislike about Fantasy Japan, made by Western sources, is that their sources tend to be from the nobility, myths, and legends of Japan at the time with very VERY little actual historical knowledge on how people lived.

They get huge lists on the caste system in place the dishonor and honor people have at each of those points

Those caste lists are 100% BS and didn't reflect Japan at the time or future because it was basically made by a sheltered rich noble who never would need to lift a single finger his entire life and was completely delusional on how actual people lived at the time. Not to mention those lists did in fact change over time (usually because the nobles completely gimped themselves... such as Merchants... to the extent where they had to revise the caste system to fix it.)

Which is kind of the thing. Fantasy Japan would be like doing a Victorian England setting done ENTIRELY from the perspective of the upper nobility. It might get the relationship between the upper classes and the peasants correct, but it doesn't work from the bottom looking up.

Though I will say my current research REALLY REALLY REALLY doesn't suggest a lot of good things when it comes to how the peasants were treated during certain time periods (where they were treated as extremely expendable almost non-people... Basically the Lords and their direct subjects were extremely tyrannical). So even my research is flawed... I need to look into it.

You could say the same things about Western attitudes towards our own history.  Most fiction and nonfiction set prior to, to pick a time period semi-arbitrarily, the French Revolution is entirely from the aristocrats' perspective.  Even if its set in a fictional world based on the real past.
