Job just put me on a final warning for breaking policy by hanging up on a customer.  Customer was cussing me out because the cable department dumped her on us instead of fixing her problem.   Blind transferring to me mid rant even.  This happens daily, it's not anything unusual, even though it's definitely not supposed to happen. But this customer was particularly livid and uncooperative.

The problem she had was something I could not help with. I work on internet, she was having trouble with her cable tv.  So naturally I could not help, I offered to transfer her over to the tv folks to get someone who could actually help her.  She refused.  I offered to escalate her up to a supervisor she refused that.  Just demanding I fix her problem then and there.

I request supervisor assistance, as I am supposed to for these kinds of calls.  I don't have to do this often, I have only done this twice in 2 years, managing to calm the people down I'm talking to all other times.  But I'm following the rules I need to get a supervisor conference-d in.

Contact Supervisor refuses the escalation, simply telling me to deal with it.  I try to confirm with them, mentioning that I am not the department she needs and that she is refusing the transfer.  I get no further response from the POC supervisor.  I attempt to help the customer with what little I can with cable service (a no-no since it's out of our scope but I have no other options), but due to a lack of any tools capable of making any changes to it, and me not actually being a customer of this cable provider, I fail.  I am now being berated on a personal level by the customer.  So after a bit I had enough and hung up on her.  Noting it in the notes and emailing my direct supervisor (who was not on shift at the time).

Few days pass and today I get taken off calls forcefully (they manipulated my call status remotely) and put me in a meeting with my supervisor.  Apparently they audited the call and found me in the wrong.  I never should have hung up on the customer instead I should have contacted the POC supervisor for assistance. The POC supervisor at the time was in the meeting as well since I mentioned in my email I contacted them, and he claimed I never did.  We are not allowed to log the chat, and the POC supervisor conveniently was not logging that day (even if he was he has access to delete or modify the logs). 

So I get informed that I should be getting terminated then and there but instead I'm immediately put on a final warning for a severe policy infraction and am on parole, (which my own supervisor tried to make himself out to be a hero for getting instead).  Which means that I get no bonuses for 6 months, I am ineligible for schedule changes for 6 months, I am not allowed to sign up for VTO or overtime (unless mandatory) for 6 months, I take a pay cut of .50 cents an hour for 6 months, and if I sell any services for comcast I don't get a commission (which I was not doing anyway).

The agent from comcast first party support, the one that transferred the customer to me in the first place, got off scott free.  They have been getting away with these blind transfers to other departments for years, it's not going to start happening now, and the contractor I work for comcast through is too afraid of comcast outsourcing us to make any kind of complaint.

They are probably looking for a way to economize on employee pay anyway. There are other jobs available, don't take that shit from them. Today I have met a person that thinks a fairly richly upholstered chair -- pretty big, faux leather, fine stuffing, etc., etc., the kind of thing you see behind a large solid wood desk in someone's home office -- is going to last any meaningful amount of time outside in florida weather.

It's, like. Yes, it's not going to get directly rained on (probably, sometimes the rain decides horizontal is a fun direction to travel). But humidity. Dew. Bugs. Heat, even without direct sunlight. The chair was already not in the most amazing of shape, really. Far from bad, but it's definitely used. And now it's been given the death knell of decaying furnishings. Within a few months, the stuffing will be molding and infested with bugs (ticks, fleas, bedbugs, who knows! The floridian roulette of vermin infestation has many results, none of them good), the covering will be chewed upon by who knows what, and there's non-negligible odds the wood involved in its construction will have started to either warp or rot. God help anything that's metal and exposed -- there's some that can manage that, but they're generally not used in chairs designed for interior use.

Folks. There's a reason if it's sitting outside in florida, it probably doesn't have much on it, and what it does is probably cheap, easily removable for cleaning, or of a material that doesn't weather hard. This chair is none of the above (though I think it was got cheaply, even if the original cost wasn't).
