pretty sure lynch mobs actually happened too.

for the record, id try cat and dog.

...  and maybe long pork.  idk
Sure, but lynch mobs are somewhat more morally reprehensible than a culture eating a kind of animal you consider to be not-food.

I'd try meat as a whole if I wasn't painfully allergic to something in it.  Heck I can barely stomach seafood without painful as heck stomach cramps.

Are you sure its that you're allergic to meat, and not a result of eating something that you almost never eat? It's common for a sudden change in diet to cause complications like that. I've never eaten any substantial amount of mushrooms, and when I try one I sometimes do get sick afterwards.

Actually, it really affects animals like horses, if they've been eating one type of hay or grain for years and you give them a truckload of something else rather than slowly introducing it to their main diet. It's called "foundering" when talking about horses.

I dunno, it's probably both.  The last time I ate meat was when I was 5 but up until then I had horrific stomach issues that made them think I was gonna die multiple times as a child.  Now I only get that grade of sick is when I drink  a ton of milk (mildly lactose intolerant as well) or consume any amount of meat.

Heck recently I accidentally ate soup with beef broth as a base, was so bad I nearly went to the hospital for food poisoning before my mother told me to check the ingredients on the ministroni soup I had eaten.

I consider the idea of long pork similar to that of ice.
It's like, you can go through all of the hoops to make sure you get the cleanest supply, and still get messed up, so why bother.

That being said I could probably say with certainty that lynch mobs are morally "cleaner" than eating mansteak.

Strictly speaking that applies to pretty much any source of meat.

I respectfully disagree. Eating man steak does not necessarily involve manslaughter. Successful lynch mobs do.

I'd be terribly surprised if there wasn't at least one out there with mansteak in the title. Know I've seen the line "The Man Diet" before.

More like just about anything, period. There's not much that doesn't have the "get safest supply, can still get messed up" caveat.

That is exactly the joke we were all thinking but were too chicken to post. Thank you.

Yeah, probably simply because you've had so little of it that you're not "used to" it.

Although I've never heard of such a thing as a meat allergy, or an allergy to an entire food group that the rest of the species doesn't have such issue with, lactose intolerance aside. A gene determines whether or not you can process lactose as an adult, and it used to be the that majority of all human beings could not, according to some documentary I watched. But since lactose tolerance became more important to one's health with the increased consumption of dairy products from domestic animals, the gene became more and more common.

But to the best of my knowledge and everything I've ever heard, the entire human race is omnivorous and perfectly capable of consuming meat.

Have you heard of coeliac? His symptoms sound a lot like coeliac actually but with meat instead of gluten (eg. Wheat).

IIRC the body stops producing certain digestive enzymes if they're not being used at all. So a diet lacking in certain types of protein might cause certain proteases to stop being produced. Wouldn't say this could be the case for sure, what with the combination of it being off the top of my head and not knowing your diet, but could be a possibility.

Respectfully argue. Lynch mobs are caused when public opinion differs extremely from the set laws leading to civilian justice. It is the bloody-minded evil which can only come from those who believe themselves righteous.

Cannibalism however is borne entirely from either moral bankruptcy in the name of survival or moral invalidation in the name of deviancy.
Even those who would indulge out of curiosity are still eating sapient, sentient flesh which is widely regarded to be 'bad', regardless of the disease issues.

I don't think there's anything inherently bad about eating sapients.  Slaughtering sapients for food, yeah.  And yeah most of the demand is probably deviant.  But ritual cannibalism can be a respectful thing, too, like eating placentas or mixing blood to cement a bond.

i would argue that the stigma of cannibalism is as much from a need to keep peasants from ruining the economy every time they get a hankering for meat but are forbidden to hunt in his lord's woods  doesnt want to spend monies.  plenty of socially reprehensible types,  though we associate hated with dirty...

That and the whole being an abrahamic world.  though i do recall eating flesh and drinking blood once a week as a child.

But, ignoring safety concerns, eating people is a double edge; one day your children will be eated or the image of such can be conjured by our accursed empathic powers.

and then humans are  a poor shape for  consumption.  too many organs in our chesthole, too wiry in general as opposed to critters domesticated amd bred for providing ample meats

if curiousity produces progress than is that bad?  to play my part here.
If we adhere to our traditions and values but cast away our general agnostic beliefs are we progress?
7 billion and counting, trillions of individual debts, the inevitabilty of olgiarchical rule whether under a facade of democratic (republic) or not...

Humans make things to solve problems, to live a better life.
We make more and more different things today than we ever have before. For all of human history the rate of progress has accelerated, and it has no reason to stop now.
As an action of living we make progress, regardless of if individuals wish to make progress.
History is a technological singularity in slow-motion, and it cannot be stopped.

It can totally be stopped. It'd just suck for all of us rather incredibly hard, and most macroscopic life on the planet might not be there anymore shortly thereafter.
