As for MOBAs, I agree with Red Warrior; MOBA can be applied to any competitive online environment. You're battling against other players in an enclosed environment created solely for that game.

Went to the laundromat, washed my clothes, put them in the dryer, and left to go grocery shopping. Came back, and when I took them out of the dryer, and the felt like they were wetter than when I took them out of the washing machine. I would have saved a dollar just bringing them home to use in my parents' dryer, which is what I'm doing.

@MOBA discussion. MOBA is short for "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena"? If so, I guess that term can apply to just about any game that's both multiplayer, played online, and has instantiated games rather than persistent maps. IE, CS:GO could be called a MOBA, while Planetside 2(which uses a persistent campaign map) is not.

Probably because people generally know what FPS stands for, while TPS and OTS sound like controversial capitalist bills.

Strategy games proved long ago that genres don't have to literally describe their genre specifically. "Strategy" could conceivably describe Pong.

I'm pretty sure what people mean when they say "MOBA is vague" is "I dislike that a company created this term to market their game." But instead of actually saying that legitimate criticism, everyone needs to create contrived standards for proper genre names so they can dismiss it. I can't figure out why.

er... no. Lazy consumerism.

Games are expensive. Having a genre that accurately describe what games that fall under that category means you're less likely to waste your hard-earned pennies on something you won't enjoy. I don't like FPS' for example, so I won't buy one.

Though this then gets to the other extreme in which devs describe their games as "rogue-lite action-RPG with real-time and turn-based strategy elements sports simulation FPP" nonsense, which is probably just as bad.

MOBA can describe a FPS like Battleborn or Overwatch, as well as RTS type games like LoL and the like. Vastly different games falling under the same category? Okay.

I enjoy strategizing in card games, but I've never accidentally bought a strategy game because I expected similar gameplay. You just have to learn that words have additional connotations when used as a genre, like romance, action, and drama.
