As somebody vegetarian from birth, this mystifies me.
Basically, you need a variety of nutrients, and it's hard to get all of them from plants. Stuff like vitamin B12 is produced exclusively by animals.
Yeah, but... I've never had issues? Like ever?
Since you're a vegetarian from birth, your family probably had some experience with eating vegetarian in such a way that prevents malnutrition.

Vegetarian or vegan? You can get B12 in milk and eggs IIRC. I very much doubt you were vegan from birth, you would've died as a baby. Unless mother's milk is kosher for vegans, that is. If it's not, any parents who put their kids on a pure vegan diet from birth should be locked up for child abuse. It wouldn't surprise me if this was an actual thing, I've heard of people putting cats on a vegan diet, with predictably disastrous results.

Vegetarian, not vegan. Vegans are nutters.

Eh, not much more than any other type of -an, it's more reasonable when you see what farmers need to do to get milk from cows and such.
But I do have tremendous fun screwing with people who think all vegetarians don't get a proper supply of nutrients since I'm around 6' 3'' and built like a rugby player.

Well, see, cows don't lactate without a good reason to, the body likely just couldn't work with that, so they need to give birth, at which point the calf is taken away and then the cow is milked.
The calf is then either raised to have it's children taken away or slaughtered depending on the gender, if I remember correctly.

Milk taste better after you torture the cows, because anyone who consume animal product are literally worse than Hitler.

I mean the second statement is technically true since Hitler was a vegetarian so he's nice on that aspect.

The various injustices in milk production is a complicated topic to me. I mean, there's some pretty inhumane stuff that happens there, the early weaning being at the very bottom of the list imho.
That being said there's some cultures who like to spigot blood out of the cow whilst it's being milked and drink the mixture.
I would drink free range milk, but I would prefer not to stop eating cereal completely.

But most animals afaik continue producing milk up until they're no longer being milked. So technically if vegans had an issue with cow milk they could just shift to human milk.
I would not be up for that, but there's probably a market for fetishists humanitarians who are.

Pretty sure there's a couple vegetables you can get vitamin B12 from as well... I did research on this several months ago.
Name one. There is B12 in some processed vegetables because it's added during the processing (sourced from bacteria), but AFAIK no fresh vegetable has it.

As for milk, a life without cheese is not a life worth living.

...at which point the calf is taken away...
Not always. Here in Finland at least, some milk producers make it an advertising point that they allow the calves to drink their fill first.

(Except if they really did, they'd be almost done with their next pregnancy before they self-weaned.)

Just googled it all to check up on the inhumanities...
Well, Australia has none of those. So nevermind. Small population has its benefits.
