It definitely was painful, though. Even using Swype. Oh man.

I am sad I am learning that "Other M" and what it did to Samus...

Wasn't an exception.

Why is a awesome female lead such a hard thing for people to swallow? Do they all have to be festering piles of insecurity, depression, and/or father issues?

Insecurity, depression and father issues are some of the most familiar traits to writers across the globe, and are thus the first things to be liberally applied when reaching for such things as character depth. It's not really an exclusively female lead thing. It's just way more noticeable because people get considerably less creative when writing women.

I'll give a short form... Samus in Other M suffered from a form of Post Pardem Depression PTSD Shell Shock along with crippling father issues.

When in previous games she was basically a competent Mercenary.

You're a little late to the party, Neo. Other M was quite extensively scorned when it came out for aforementioned butchering of Samus' character.
