Aw, missed Cinder's post.  Too busy trying to catch up on this Pokemon Go stuff.

Museum's being dumb by not accepting the added traffic, but whatevs.  I'm sure Google/Niantic would remove the hotspot in a New York minute if asked.  Making a public issue out of this is amusing, disgusting sensationalism.

I'm just happy the game finally works.  It was unplayable on launch and most of the weekend, but I actually managed to play today.

I have a gym about half a mile away.  It's a local barbecue joint.
A gym is really not a big deal.  Gods!

The Pokemon are probably completely random.  I assume the problem is that there's a gym is at the museum, and I assume a lot of Pokestations are there too.
Basically places that you hit for loot ever 5 minutes or whatever.  An area thick with pokestations, like ingress portals, is rich territory for farming.  (Still have to walk quite a bit, but it's lucrative).

They're probably assigned based on landmarks, and general droid-phone usage statistics.  And maybe Ingress portals, which are a mix of "Important place" and "meaningless place lots of people submitted selfishly".

There is some. Pokemon don't spawn on roads, and certain types of pokemon spawn very rarely except in certain areas. Like water pokemon spawn around bodies of water and electric types tend to spawn near power plants and industrial areas, and other such cases.  There's also rumors that there might be some sort of random territory distribution for certain mons due to people going on vacation to other towns and encountering pokemon they've never seen before.

Spawn rates in general increase around gyms and pokestops, whose locations were ported over from Ingress, which had its portals placed via user submitted applications based on a set of criteria to define local landmarks. Submission is currently closed due to them reviewing the selection process.

Okay, so, the US 9th Circuit just decided that a sharing of login credentials for a private database was illegal under the CFAA.  They say it wouldn't impact sharing, like, Netflix passwords, to use the example the media is overhyping, but they didn't actually put forth a standard to bar that....I'm confused and slightly worried, and also really irked that there are several misunderstandings bouncing around.

  I get that the whole gastly affair would leave some of the more sensitive  souls weezing for air and spilling their drink in a rush to paint me as an oddish fellow ekans to an eggsecutor or something, but I assure you the truth is nothing so arcanine.
