"Sciencism" is a good word for it (not to be confused with "scientism", which relates to perceived value). People who don't understand science treating it as the latest in a series of idols.

The easy way to tell the difference: if magic existed a scientist would attempt to subject it to empirical reasoning and testing. A sciencist would refute its existence.

I was researching when it was illegal to be gay in the USA thinking "Ohhh... it must be an ancient law"

NOPE! 2003 in 14 states.

I was looking up if there was a Red Dead Redemption 2 being made and rumor (or officially) is that they didn't show it at E3 because of the Orlando shooting.

So some buddies I was with were like "So, you shoot gay people [in red dead redemption 2]" and I inferred "Well they probably killed [homosexuals] in the old Tex" thinking it was likely illegal back then.

So just to see I checked how long it was illegal for and... WOW!

These are the laws you are looking for. Sex has been opposed off and on for a long time. (The act is penalized, not the preference, to the best of my knowledge.)

Youtube videos are loading very slowly in Firefox.  Only in Firefox, and only on my desktop machine.  This has happened before, but I'm pretty sure it just resolved itself after a few days...

Already disabled every extension (even classic theme restorer lol), stopped most services, disabled AVG, no change.  I'm up to date on updates, and have rebooted a couple times since this started.
Whatever, guess I'll use Chrome for youtube on my desktop for a while!  So strange though.

I don't actually think it matters what the video quality is, oddly.  Youtube automatically downscales but it doesn't seem to actually buffer faster, and the problem is just as bad with static-image music "videos".

Hrm. Just to check, have you tried cleaning out firefox's cache? Dunno if it'd help any, but I had something approaching a similar problem with youtube a few months ago (It wouldn't let me select video quality over like 144p), and the problem was some kind of setting thing managing to get saved in the cache (which made little sense, since I don't have a youtube account, but whatever), and clearing the thing out fixed it. Wouldn't give good odds it'd help any, but it might.
