Could we stop using this flame warriors thing? Besides not being truly accurate and relevant, it is also pretty much a tool for insulting others in an indirect way, even if you don't intend it to.
I like it personally. The descriptions tend to be relatively accurate as far as comedy goes and they don't lean left or right as much as they stays in the center mocking everyone.

Plus it's not like it's overused. I think i used it a total of 2 times so far and BlackHeartKabal is the only other person i saw using it.

Its also ugly as fuck, prob takes a fair bit of bandwidth, and makes the threads look like some political tabloid.
Worse, even. A political tabloid with furries.
The pictures are around 27 KB each. Doubt that's killing anyone's bandwidth more than an average image.
Also #fursecution
It adds nothing to the conversation, and it's pretty annoying when you drop these in for no reason whatsoever.

Re: pedestrian lights: I know of one set that makes the lights change immediately upon pressing the button, but those lights were specifically out in to make it safer to cross the road for pedestrians so... great example.

Re: cyclists: of the two times I've almost been hit by a road vehicle, they were cyclists. One of them for some inexplicably stupid arsehole reason was wearing a black jacket and trousers at 11.30 at night so I couldn't see them until they were in the glow of a streetlight, and the other came speedin' round the corner onto the road I was walking on, also at night. This guy was nice enough to be wearing high-vis stuff though, but still almost hit meh when I was crossing.

I've also seen more cyclists break traffic laws than cars, bizarrely. Don't mind so much when they get off their bike at traffic lights and walk through, but some don't even have the sense to do that.

Re: flame warrior classes: is silly. Pigeon-holing people based on the type of arguments they make is very dismissive, as though you're saying you are [x, y or z] so your words don't matter. It makes y'all look foolish, like you're trying to win an argument by making the other person look stupid than by refuting what they say.

This still doesn't mean it should be the norm >_> It fills up a lot of visual space, even if the bandwidth space is 'thought to be small in comparison' it helps communication more if people were descriptive and detailed with the meaning they'd rather forward, instead of parsing the association between that image, and the applied context the person is implying. The better way is to just be direct and detailed--like what this forum has been instead of using images to forward an implied idea. (It may also reduce the discussion because the picture is limited in form, and not everyone comes from the same background and culture--especially considering the context of this forum, an international forum)

It adds nothing to the conversation, and it's pretty annoying when you drop these in for no reason whatsoever.
In short, words > pictures, in this context.

Someone asking to stop using something is different from one's own preference of liking something, because the latter is on another area than the former. It's how you use it. One may have a preference because of their contextual knowledge and background with these pictures, but these pictures aren't more widespread than words. Checking the link--it's nice to have an idea of what behavior you're facing, but re-applying pictures that could be seen as labels towards other people, rather than calling out their attitude and how they act instead, can be a cause for misunderstandings in itself.

Yeah I don't care for city cyclists who break the traffic laws dangerously.  It's really common.
Usually I did my best to let cars pass me.  I road on sidewalks sometimes, but that's often unsafe even if I slow down a lot around actual pedestrians.  Mostly did it at night and was very slow/careful, because I can ride at walking pace and a car might not see me on the road.

Then there are those streets like Hillsborough where the cars are parked along the side...  Letting cars pass in your lane there isn't doing anyone favors, it's just rolling the dice that you get a "door prize" (when someone parks and opens their door without seeing you).  Have to take the lane there, or use the sidewalk.  But honestly I was nearly as fast as the stop-and-go traffic there, I would usually keep up with the car ahead when the light was red.  Nowadays there's roundabouts, so ehh...  Fortunately the sidewalks are huge.

I'm just rambling.  I always respected the traffic laws as if I was a vehicle, and that worked out for me.  I particularly hated when people I road with skipped ahead of cars at stoplights (then *didn't* right turn on red) or worse yet just ran lights.

But when it's one of the country roads with their metal detectors, and no cars are around to change it?  Yeah I'm not waiting 5 minutes for it.  Proceed with caution.

My driver's textbook actually had in one spot this piece of advice: "bicycles should also yield here, but not all cyclists know this rule, so be careful."

When I cycle, I do my best to follow the rules and laws and to be visible and predictable. I even wear a helmet and indicate my turns.

A safety tip: the little bell most bikes have has an use; when you're driving on a combined sidewalk/cycling lane (almost ubiquitous in my hometown), ring it whenever you approach a pedestrian who hasn't noticed you and everyone will be safer. Some might be annoyed by it, but safety is worth a few dirty looks.

Well you are in luck because i dropped image links related to that site a grand total of 3 times in the 6 years since i joined this forum making it an unbearable average of 0.5 per year.

1 - It's the WTF thread.
2 - I don't treat online discussions seriously most of the time anyway and would rather have fun with people rather than refute/debunk them. Plus opinions tend to be highly subjective and their owners protective of them to the point of not changing them no matter how convincing the arguments you might come up with are.
3 - Sometimes I don't want to even remotely bother. Especially not in the WTF thread when opinions i have no words for come about.

Refute was the wrong word to use for what I meant. Challenge would've been better. Ah well...

I'm not sure many people think it's fun to be treated like they're not worth the effort to say "I disagree with you" rather than post an image of what you think they are based on arbitrary criteria that you didn't even come up with.

As I'm sure you've noticed, sometimes the WTF thread - like the other emotion threads - does spontaneously erupt into genuine discussions of things.

I am taking this too seriously though. Basically my argument being "other folk have opinions, try to respect 'em even if they're nonsense, bro"

Why would a nonsense opinion deserve respect?

Respect the people if they're respectworthy. Does holding a nonsense opinion make them deserving of disrespect? Dunno, I think it's best to show respect out of practicality and politeness, but I mean if you don't want to respect someone because they think rubbing rhubarb is the most important thing in life that's your call

You gotta admit, there is something funny about seeing a cartoonish, garish caricature of yourself (or what others see of you). Yeah it is dismissive, so it has a time and a place, but it doesn't make the person using it seem foolish - only dispassionate about the subject discussed

It's the same crap as TVT potholing: being so boring, unoriginal, and linguistically incompetent that you feel the need to link to a marginally related web page in order to describe something.

My workplace has recently installed a new web-filter, that inconsistently blocks webpages about:
weapons (including e.g. a Guardian article about gun-crime in America, and the Wikipedia article on archery).
gambling (including the Wikipedia reference desk when someone had asked a question about dice)
pornography (such as - apparently - Shortpacked!)

Or just not caring enough to mince a load of words in order to provide an accurate personalized answer/riposte you just know will be disregarded because the vegetarian you are talking with only accepts information posted on sites related to Plant Pure Nation as everyone else in their eyes is subjugated by the meat industry and spreads lies.
Any research saying that directly eating soy might be detrimental to your health is vile meateater propaganda (despite everyone eating tons of the stuff in one way or another).

Plus if someone acts like a caricature then perhaps he can explain how his actions and views are different from his garish cartoonish caricature.
Given how outlandish some of those can be that shouldn't be hard to answer and brush aside right?
