Why would they be considered untouchable?
Probably wording. I'd imagine there are BSDM circles centered about Nazi imagery (there certainly were a lot of literature about it in the 50s), and I'd imagine they're probably considered untouchable, as well.

Why would they be considered untouchable? So long as both parties consent and adequate measures are taken to avoid things going too far (safe words and such) I can't imagine that kind of thing being different than any of the things that happen in BDSM.
Well yeah, but with that specific kink it's even harder to distinguish between consensual and abusive acts. And if there's one thing BDSM folks are scared of it's being suspected of being abusive.

I'm not so sure about that - differentiating between consensual and abusive acts, or perhaps the "receiver" being less able to bring a halt to the situation - but I don't know enough about the BDSM scene to say for sure.

I am a bit more sure that the BDSM community will have their own individual reputations amongst other members, and if someone gets a rep for being slow to respond to (or even outright ignoring) safe words or other measures, they won't be a member of the community for long.

... think I figured out why everyone had so much trouble starting the weedeater last time. Hadn't got involved myself (was basically sick as a dog that day), but watched folks trying for a while. Near as I can tell having just started it up myself, it was because they didn't read the bloody instructions stuck on the side of the machine in open and conspicuous view. Took multiple healthy adults probably two or three dozen tries and a lot of exhaustion between them to get it going last time.

This time, it started on the second pull, and took almost no effort. What took three fairly healthy adults 10-15+ minutes and a near heat stroke, took one barely healthy one <30 seconds and not even sweating.

Why. This happens so often. Something goes wrong, doesn't work, comes out poorly, whatever. You ask the person having the trouble if they read the directions (or the recipe, or whatever), and they look at you in something like incomprehension. Then continuing pseudo-incomprehension when you do and everything actually works.

RTFM is goddamn magic, apparently. Forget friendship, we got RATS.

What'd they do, forget to press the button to prime it? (Wait, why do you have a gas powered weed whacker?)

Think it was some kind of combination of that, pressing it too much, and/or not noticing what setting the throttle whatsit was supposed to be on. Maybe not pulling the cord-thingy as directed, I'unno. Possibly in such an order that by the time they actually noticed or tried proper procedure, they'd gummed up something enough it needed a few hours/days to clear out and start working properly again (so they could get it working, just with... difficulty). Gave 'em a fit and a half, though, whereas doing it step by step the first time, as mentioned, was basically a non-issue.

As for the why, because the folks that use it most often can't really work your normal one all that well at this point, so it's a push one (they're... old. Both are in their 80s, one still gardens fairly regularly), and if there were any electric options for those, they cost too much more to have been considered. Also pretty big yard, honestly, so it helps out even the ones of us that chip in that can handle your average carry-around ones.

... plus I think all the electric ones they've had over the years have managed to break. Pretty sure there's actually one or two laying around somewhere in one of the storage areas/outside places that just don't work. As you might imagine, folks that don't bother to read the ignition steps also aren't the biggest on careful storage and maintenance :V

Electric weed whackers are much less powerful (important for dealing with heavy weeds) and much more of a pain to move around because of the cord.

Wait, who the hell uses a corded electric any more? I've got one which uses 20v lithium battery packs. They last about 15-20m each on fairly heavy work, and the thing doesn't have any trouble with regularly cutting back stuff that killed my gas weed whacker's motor. One loaded, one in my back pocket, and I can take care of all that needs doing in under half an hour.

... do note, the weedeater in question is a push one. Thing's basically a lawnmower.

Think one or both of the nonfunctioning electric ones were corded, though, sure. Pretty sure they were both some years old when they stopped working, though. Decent battery tech that could handle 'em probably still wasn't around or still too expensive or somethin'.

E: In other WTF news, the game I'm playing (Magical Vacation; recently finished being translated, same art direction as Sword of Mana) just had a short arc/scene that was centered around people cursed to turn into Dodos. And that's not some strange case of a purloined word being used as the name of some mystical beast. They're friggin' dodo birds, and they go "Do♪ Do♪".* Earlier part of the game actually did the same thing with elementals trapped in Dodo bodies. Game's been kinda' out there so far, but this is... this. Yeah.

Electric ones die too fast and don't have as much power. When it takes 1-2 hours to get through the garden, electrics just don't live up to the hype.

I haven't had internet for an extended period of time, and my currently available computer is an old-ass PowerPC MacBook, which only runs .40d DF, so I've been messing around with super old adventure mode. Ahh, old combat physics. Flying exploding wolves and completely fair throwing.

So I was watching... HOLY COW I don't remember the name... Peel and Teller? Whatever a clip from some Comedy Show... I'll spare you the details of the clip... but it ends with a title drop

Law and Order: Wizard City

COME ON! Who here would POUNCE on this show? A Law Procedural show based in a magical, yet modern, realm with forensics and everything.

I'd eat that garbage up!

HECK I always wanted to read the Super Hero law Procedural comic where one of the villains was a sex offender who transforms into household objects like chairs for women to sit on... and one of the cops is a super intelligent Doberman with cybernetic implants allowing him to walk around and grasp things.
