Eh. That game talks up dynamic frontline and all that but in my experience it's about as big a part of the gameplay as Insurgency's squad coordination. Sure it exists on paper, but down in the trenches gameplay tends to follow the same simple "diffuse from spawn and move randomly, occasionally collide with hostile particles."

Somehow, I have managed to make myself actually run a forum game.  AAAAAA

Instead of picking me up as usual, my mother sends my younger sister and her useless scumbag boyfriend to give me a ride home. I'm not informed of this until I check my phone just before walking out the door from work, where I find a text message from my mother telling me this and asking me to give my sister money. Also, my sister drives like a goddamn maniac, and the seatbelt latch on the back seat was blocked by a seat cover.

Once, in planetside 2, I was instakilled by my own Vanu hovertank rolling downhill.

Yesterday I died in Wasted by dropping a cinderblock on the ground... counted as impacting my character, did a lot of damage.

The problem here is that you play Vanu, spandex scumlord.

Yeah, I don't think you can do a WWI trench warfare game outside of abstract strategy (where you play as one of the generals sending millions off to die in abstract representation or RTS) unless you're going to do a horror game where you sit in the trench with sludge rising up to your knees, your dead buddy rotting beside you with rats for company, knits in your clothes, shells raining down in volumes never before unleashed by man, and chemical warfare becoming a happy aquaintance. And that's just whilst you're sitting around. It'd make a neat MMORPG where the harrowing grind of MMORPG would play to the theme, the theme of making you try to quit the game and never play again.

Just play Dawn of War as Imperial Guard.  Even with their strong vehicle units, it's pretty bloody.  Even Kasrkin die quickly.

Doesn't quite capture the same feel.

I recall watching a piece of war footage the BBC had recorded and never published for propaganda purposes, resulting in it being one of the few completely unedited pieces of WWI footage. Starts off with hundreds of thousands of men going over the top and you can see why they thought it would work - such a massive sight of strength and power seems indomitable, impossible to the concept of failure. Before they reach the top you can see the first man shot through the head as soon as he starts climbing out of the trench, none of his friends even slow down as en masse they charge into the fire. The saddest thing is how far they make it
