I think "Underage girls in sexual situations" Animes have somewhat died down recently. Likely due to their extreme levels of saturation and low quality.

MOST REAL animes... tell you who he is going to pick IMMEDIATELY and doesn't even pretend like he has feelings towards the others.

Or as I like to call it: There are three types of Harem animes
1) No Chance: The hero isn't going to pick anyone and it is obvious. (very common!)
2) One True Love: The hero has a harem... but lets face it, outside MAYBE one rival... the one true love is immediately known (VERY common!)
and
3) Everyone stands a chance: The hero could chose anyone (RARE!)

Ouran Club is a "One True Love"
Hayate Combat Butler is a No Chance.
Tenchi Muyo CAN generously be considered a "Everyone stands a chance" (though frankly... I don't buy it)

Aren't most of those harem animes started out as VNs? Then they cram all the girls character arcs that should had led them being the one true love but ends up the guy looking like an indecisive wuss.

Or they decided who is best girl from the get go but still try to jam in all the other girls character arcs.
