The Dresden files did a good take on it.
Necronomicon was actually distributed by the 'good guys' because the evil otherworldly critters only had so much power to give, so when every college kid with an occultist streak started doing the rituals, it got diluted to nothingness.

In terms of novelty v reverence re: solid, cynical stuff, sure if there's a bunch of things people won't treat them as sacrosanctly.
I'll bet my left arm that someone somewhere has a necronomicon sitting in their toilet and I don't actually mean that please don't take my arm.

My mouse appears to be damaged.  The scroll wheel when scrolling down seems to accept the scrolling stopping as input to scroll back up a couple times.  So I roll the scroll wheel down once and I often end up right back where I started, if not higher on the page.

The left mouse button also appears to be borked as it seems to forget that button is being held down at random times and then suddenly remembering it's being pushed.  Making dragging and dropping seem more akin to Russian roulette.  As the object being dragged gets dropped at random locations and then suddenly something else is being dragged across the screen.  Sometimes the button stops taking input in such a way that it will randomly register doubleclicks while dragging too, which is always fun.

this was something like a $20 'gaming' mouse that I've only used for about half a year.  I have a crappy dell 2 button mouse that probably cost a quarter of that, that I've had for 7 years and is still trucking like a champ.  What ever happened to expecting basic quality products?  It's almost like this stuff is made to last just long enough to be rated highly on online markets before kicking the bucket now.
I've been using a Logitech 2-button with scrollwheel, wireless, for about 5 years I think.  It's finally started failing in an odd way...  It's getting pickier and pickier about the surfaces it'll work on.  And yeah I've cleaned it, it stops working on anything about once a week unless I wipe the lens with a torn piece of tissue.

It was getting so finicky that I thought I had to replace it, which would suck because I've worn a very comfortable groove in the side for my thumbnail.  Fortunately I tried getting a brand-new modern mousepad instead, and that's actually working perfectly!  At least for now.

But yeah I'm very skeptical of modern gaming mice.  Personally I hate the extra buttons, I hit them a lot by accident because I'm not used to them.  I'm not surprised to hear they break easily.

(also I use my middle finger for the right mouse button.  I know it's wrong, but it's what I'm used to, and using all three fingers feels too weird.  I just scroll and left-click with my index)

Oh oh and at Best Buy I saw gaming glasses.  They were a very light orange, and apparently reduce glare... yeah...  Technically useful I'm sure, but they were like $30 lol.

I had the exact same scrolling problem on my old mouse, and the exact same clicking problem on my new mouse.

I really like my EVGA Torq X10 mouse. It's better than any mouse I've used before, and it's lasted so far (I pre-ordered it when they announced it, and got it half off for doing so, iirc).

I thought he meant the necronomicon in the HP stories (most of which I haven't read).

Anyway, my wtf: a supermarket staff member stopped me as I was going outside the supermarket carrying one £2.39 pack of raw beef, in order to ask for a receipt. Annoyingly, I had to buy a different pack, having left the receipt at the machine and the staff member there having binned it and disappeared, but my own fault, I suppose. Never had it happen before. I don't go into supermarkets alone much, generally being with a parent or friend, though, so it could just be that I live in a working class area, and was a lone male teenager wearing a short-sleeved black shirt  ::). Or maybe the guy at the door asked me randomly.

Who the hell steals raw beef, though?

Couldn't the cashier have confirmed with the store's half of the receipt that you bought it?

Raw beef is easy to sell on, apparently. Restaurants and such.

I was using one of those auto-checkout machines. There was probably a solution, but overworked employees on zero-hour contracts facing somebody they clearly thought was nicking weren't going to find it for me, in all probability.

I probably would have asked to see somebody further up. Mentioned something about looking at CCTV. In general, kicked up a bit of a fuss.

Not so much over the money, as the implication that I'm a thief.

Im not criticizing your descision to let it go, but bullshit.

Its exactly their job to make sure you leave happy enough to not smear the company online.  You put their underpaid little crappers into their place and stand up for your own rights.  The machine sure shootin' should have a log.  And often these days, at least here in my corner of the world, there is a central machine that the workers can staff.

I wouldn't do that specifically, but yeah. Having worked in a convenience store for a major chain, they do have to prove you intended to steal it. There was a paper receipt in the bin they could've checked, and there usually is a computer log too they can check if they know the machine and time it went through. Shouldn't have let it go man.
